Rectal gonorrhea without symptoms

If untreated, how long can rectal gonorrhea infection persist without symptoms?

I've probably been infected 3.5 months ago (rectal gonorrhea) during a casual sex relationship.
I've then infected my boyfriend (urogenital gonorrhea). Is it possible I've had asymptomatic rectal gonorrhea for 3.5 months or should I think I've been cheated and he got it from someone else?

Both me and my boyfriend were positive to gonorrhea infection test last week.

PS: we are both males

You will never figure who gave it to who but left untreated the body can clear itself in about 3 weeks or so but there would be painful with a white discharge.
