Red spots / rash on penis end

Hi

5 weeks ago I had unprotected oral sex from a female csw in the uk.  I've been to gum clinic and had tests done which came back negative. I've still got to have a 6 week syphilis and HIV test done again.

I've had body aches and a chesty cold for the last week or so.

Suddenly today I have a red spotty rash on the tip of my penis and I also noticed some cloudy discharge from my penis. My groin now aches too.

Can anyone please help me work out what this might be please?

Thanks

Mike.

Hi Grace,

I'm not looking for an emotional prop - I'd just like some practical advice on living with hsv-1 genitally please so any links to useful sites or docs would be appreciated greatly.

Also, the swab test was done 10 days ago and the spot they swabbed appeared 15 days ago.  It was under my foreskin and broke open on the day of my swab test but quickly healed after opening with a couple of days of the swab test.  There were a couple of other red 'spots' but they didn't break and disappeared about the same time.  I still have very achy groins but have had these on and off for about 8 weeks now.  Are these related to the herpes infection?  Am I near the end of the infection?

I'd like to know more about:
1. what risks do I have of passing it on to my family - i'm assuming that the shedding that gets talked about is just from the affected area
2. transmission risks and what it means for my future sex life
3. can i still father more children safely?
4. likely level of re-occurrence each year
5. is it likely to stop re-ocurring after a period of time?
6. anything else you can think of that would be useful to me please

Thanks so much Grace.

Mike.

Hi Grace,

I've just found out that I have HSV-1 genitally.  I had some more swab tests done and the results came back positive.

Any helpful advice or good websites to visit would be appreciated.  I now need to deal with telling my wife.  I'm devastated that one stupid mistake could lead me to this situation.

Your help and advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike.

Hi Mike,

I am no expert, but have done plenty of research and have asked many questions to Grace and Co. and have gained some good knowledge. If you look up my name and my posts you can see my symptoms as well, but I have something very similar to yours. I was/am having groin pain that is mild aching, and not always present, with some slight irritation and redness on my pubic/base of penis. This has been going on for some time and I have not had any blisters or big lesions (or any other symptoms of the classic initial OB's you read about). Also I have frequent urination problems, and my stream isnt always so strong or full. I have seen several doctors and dermatologists and have been advised that none of my symptoms both described and visually seen seem like herpes (dermatologist kicked me out of the office and told me to stop worrying). However, my primary doctor has indicated that it could possibly be epidydimitis, though my testicle pain isn't severe it does bother me and even at night laying in bed it is very sensitive. I was given levaquin 500mg daily for a week but it didnt help much. Then i went back to doctor and found blood in my urine (not visible) so this may indicate something going on with my kidney. Might be kidney stones. I am no longer have terrible anxiety over herpes as I am hoping that I have a kidney issue couple with some sort of irritation or non-major issue (molloscum or follucilitis or whatever) although I am not entirely convinced i did not contract herpes. Anyway, I believe this forum is helpful for advice and people sharing their stories and comparisons can be made and possibly solutions found. Keep asking questions and posting your symptoms as we may be able to learn from each other.

Hi Grace, I got my swab test results back today and they were negative for herpes so I'm very relieved about that. The irritation at the end of my penis is lessenig too.

Thanks again for yours and 2terrifieds help.

Hi 2terrified,  thanks for your reply.  I'm just really worried about my symptoms.  I hoped that my trip to the GUM clinic a week ago would have reassured me that the rash I had wasn't herpes related but then they gave me the acyclovir which set me off worrying.  I really hope that Grace is right.  I should get the swab test results on Monday.

I'm just trying to really understand the risks and the timelines, etc to try to put things straight in my head.  The post that I linked to made encouraging reading re the timelines and I just wanted to get a little more clarification on that and exactly what the 'classical symptoms' are.

Thanks again for your reply, Mike.

Hi, Mike.  I read through all the replies and Grace has said several times that this is NOT likely to be a herpes infection...not HSV2 which you tested negative for or HSV1 which you already asked about a few times in this post...

Hi Grace,
My GP has thinks that the groin and pelvic aches to a prostate infection and put me on some antibiotics for 10 days to relieve these.  I had a question for you though after reading a post of yours on another thread (http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Herpes/oral-or-genital-hsv-1-virus-/show/1254409) where you say that if 'If you had contracted hsv1 genitally, you would've had obvious symptoms anywhere from 2-20 days after the encounter.' and that actually 'no, they typically occur within the first week to be honest.'. As my encounter was oral sex I assume it is most likely that if I have been exposed to it will be to hsv1.  The rash that I am suffering from didn't appear until about 50+ days after the encounter so would you think that this makes it very unlikely that I have acquired herpes?   Also you posted that 'Typically hsv1 genitally presents with very classic symptoms that you can't ignore.'.  Are these symptoms lesions rather than a small rash?  I hope you can help again.
Thanks, Mike.

If things are worse or have changed, you need to go back to your provider for further evaluation. there is only so much we can do online.

Hi Grace - I hope you had a good holiday break.

The redness at the end of my penis hasn't changed over the weekend. I know that you think this is fungal and I'm really hoping you are right but I wondered if you  are able to answer what is the time line for herpes lesions developing?  I've had the groin pain for about 3-4 weeks and the redness at the end of my penis for about 10 days.  If this was a herpes infection would the redness have developed into lesions within this time or can it take longer?  Also the redness isn't painful - it just makes me feel that I need to go to the toilet more than normal (but not as much today as yesterday).

Hope you can help with advice.

Thanks again,

Mike.

Hi grace, the pains in my groins are quite intense.   I feel like I need to constantly urinate too today which was what it was like when the rash first appeared.  I'll try to ignore symptoms for a while and leave off posting to you too ;) enjoy the remainder of your holiday and thanks again for your help. Mike.

Hi grace, thanks for your reply. Trustme, advanced yoga is not something I'm capable of even on a good day :) .  I will try to relax but the pain and the stress don't make that very easy...!
The rash doesn't seem to have changed over the last couple of days - I'm assuming that's a good thing. If it was herpes I'm assuming that it would have developed into something more like lesions over the course of the week that I have suffered from it.  I'll keep applying the cream and stop standing on my head, yoga style, over examinig things... :). .  Thanks again grace, mike.

assuming advanced yoga positions to see your genital area from all angles will lead to pain too ....he he he

same with when we have pain in the genitals, we automatically tighten muscles we typically don't tighten all the time. that too can cause us some trouble.

relax and only look at your penis when you apply the ointment and see if that helps :)

Hi Grace

thanks for your reply - sorry if my posting seemed like I was chasing you. They weren't meant that way :)

I hope you are right about it not sounding lke herpes. I will keep applying the daktacort cream.

Any thoughts though on what could be causing my groin / inner thigh pain? It has that burning pain sensation that plenty of online info attributes to herpes.

Thanks again for your help and for replying back to my post.

Enjoy the rest of your holiday!

Thanks

I do work too sometimes....lol.

give this some time to heal. it really doesn't sound like herpes going on. if it's fungal, it might take a full week of applying the cream before you see a real difference even.

Hi 2Terrified

Really sorry - I wasn't trying to chase Grace for an answer.  She's been really helpful to me with earlier posts.

Apologies again, I didn't see the American Holiday posting. I'm from the UK and the holiday is such a big thing here.

My concerns and worries are taking centre stage in my life at the moment so I'm sorry if my posts came across a little pushy - they weren't meant to.

You both do a great job and you time and help is really appreciated.

Thanks

Mike

Did you read the American Holiday and posting sticky?  We are all volunteers and respond on our own time.  This weekend is a big holiday weekend and we have families and other things going on.  Some patience would be appreciated.  When Grace is available to respond, she will.  She is very good about that.  Just give her time.  If she does not respond by Tuesday, just come back to your post and type a "bump" response.  I just happen to be on the computer a lot and answer questions while I am doing other things so it looks like I am on a lot.

Hi Grace,

Sorry to bug you.  Is Daktacort supposed to ease the burning feeling at the end of my penis as it seems to be doing the opposite at the moment.

I'll stop chasing you now... :)

An update...

The redness on the end of my penis now looks worse having put Daktacort on it.  I'm suffering from pains in my inner/upper thighs between my groin.

I'm really scared its herpes.  Any info to the contrary would be really appreciated.

Thanks

Hi grace

sorry if it seems like I'm hassling you!

I just wanted to know what your opinion was on the groin pains that I am suffering from. Do they preceed a primary outbreak? If so what's the usual timeline? Or would they appear afterwards?
Do herpes sores hurt? The rash on the end of my penis (so far) doesn't hurt now.

I hope to hear backfrom you soon.

Thanks again

I'm really hoping it's fungal grace.  Do groin pains preceed a primary herpes outbreak grace? I worked out that I've had the groin pains for nearer 4 weeks. In the first week or so it was my underarms aching more - whilst I had my chest infection. Thanks again, mike.
