Screening Test

I am a 53 year old marriedd woman and went to donate blood only to be deferred because I tested positive for Syphilis.  There were some other results, I did not understand like EIA positive, RPR negative and FTA positive.  If my memory serves me well, I tested positive for syphilis or some STD forty years ago, was treated.  Would these diseases still show in your blood 40 years later?  How common are flase positives?

Your RPR being negative, and your FTA positive is from your old infection.  Do you remember being treated for that?  If you don't remember getting treated, you should make an appt with your doctor to get treatment.

You will likely always test positive for syphilis, because the antibodies will remain in your system.
