Syphilis from kissing

Hi all,

Can you please let me know whether you can get syphilis from kissing, I mean open mouth kissing, not just casual kiss? I understand that it could go without any symptoms as well and in women chancres could not be obvious because they can appear in the vagina. Are there any other indication? Should I worry if this is my only contact? Do I need to get testes?
Thank you all for your input.

Thank you, Dave. I hope you are right!
Thank you for all you do here in this forum, words are not enough to express it. I think people take it for granted, but you spend so much of your own time trying to help. This deserves admiration and that applies to all volunteers on this forum. I know my words might mean nothing to you but I really mean it. Always be healthy and happy.

In the real world getting tested for syphilis every time we kiss someone is more an issue of anxiety than reality. Syphilis is not that common in heterosexual groups and is almost always genital area and in some ways country specific.

Thank you, I know testing is probably not required and syphilis is indeed not common. It's just shocking when you type in Google: "syphilis from kissing" and all websites say it's possible. This is why I turn to you as information can be misleading and I know here you are talking about what happens in real life and not in theory. I want to educate myself. So I can put this behind me and no testing is required? I never noticed any chancres but read they can be in the vagina, thus not visible...

What your describing is zero risk for syphilis. When people get syphilis theres always a chancre sore appearing and its only contractable when coming into contact with the chancre.

Thank you, Dave! But when you search online, the majority of the websites will say you can get it from kissing if the person has chancre in the mouth. I am not sure where these chancres are situated - on the lips or inside the mouth? If it is visible, then it's fine, but if not - then I have not looked inside his mouth...
