Throat STD?
Hi everyone,
So I had unprotected oral sex with another man almost 5 months ago. Six days following exposure, I had a mild sore throat with a little bit of swollen tonsils and inflammation. Then about 4 weeks after, I had some white spots on my tonsils which I poked at and irritated further, causing a painful canker sore on one of them which resolved in a few days. Following all this, the back of my throat and tonsils have continuously been red and inflamed. I have a sore throat that comes and goes, one lymph node in my neck that's been swollen for over 3 months, and now a white discharge from the back of my throat. This discharge smells bad, and after mixing with my saliva for the entire day, coats my tongue whitish/yellow. Additionally, when I was treated with antibiotics for something else in this time, my symptoms, including the discharge, seemed to get better, then come roaring back once the antibiotics were done. I know these probably aren't HIV symptoms as its too late for ARS symptoms and Teak tells me I didn't have an exposure with unprotected oral and an intact mouth/throat. Also, I looked at pictures of thrush and I don't think it's that because its more of an overall coating of discharge coming from my throat than an uniform fungal growth. So my question is, does this sound like another STD besides HIV that would give me an inflamed red throat/tonsils, on and off sore throat, bumps/blisters on the back of my throat, one swollen cervical lymph node, reoccurring white spots on tonsils, and whitish/yellow discharge from my throat which coats my tongue.

No, I haven't done any hiv testing. The guy I was with tested negative for hiv out to 11 months, so that would rule that out right? I saw his repeated negative tests. Also, I recently had my tonsils removed and my doctor thinks that was the cause of my symptoms. I may still test for syphilis thought to rule that out.
Not yet. My doctor kind of blew it off and said I was fine since the throat cultures were negative. He also didnt think my lymph node was swollen.
Nope ha. My doctor said its not even thrush though so I'm pretty lost at this point.

So just an update. I got a general throat culture which my doctor said would test for everything. It came back negative. Not sure what the white junk is but apparently its not from thrush or another bacteria/fungi. Not entirely sure what's going on. I'm currently doing a candida cleanse and if these problems persist I'll be asking to see an ENT. Thank you for your support in my time of need.

why would Teak lie to you? He knows his stuff and I wouldn't question what he's told you.
you need to be seen again and get this looked at. if your regular provider is stumped, seek out the opinion of an ENT specialist. If you are concerned about oral std's, by all means ask for a throat swab for them but odds are they would've run their course by now and wouldn't still be causing you active symptoms.

Alright, I'll make an appointment for this week with my doctor for a throat culture. To Grace, I was seen a while back when I had some pain on my left tonsil and a small canker sore, but my doctor kind of brushed it off as just a canker sore from me poking at my tonsil. At this time, I also had an instant strep test which was negative. Is almost 5 months after unprotected oral sex too late to be experiencing ARS symptoms? I know Teak said I had no exposure but I keep scaring myself looking at symptoms. But my white tongue and back of throat are more of a discharge than thrush from looking at pictures and descriptions of thrush online. Also, my only really swollen lymph node is in my throat. Which I'm assuming is from my ongoing untreated throat infection? For the past like 4 and a half months, my tonsils and back of throat have been red, sore, and slightly blistered with one swollen lymph node in my neck and a white discharge from my throat which coats my tongue.

H Nathan, sounds like your have either Gonorrehea or chlamydia. You have the classic symptoms. Better go have it checked out asap.
