When do symptoms appear?

I got an STD test done last week at a clinic and I'm anxiously awaiting my results. But until I wait, I want to ask, although infections like chlamydia and gonorrhea are typically asymptomatic, when would symptoms appear if you happen to show symptoms?

I'm trying to pinpoint who I contracted it from -- if I end up testing positive for an STD -- and as bad as it sounds, I'm hoping it's my current partner, just so I don't have to take the responsibility for it and have him look at me in shame when I tell him. We had unprotected sex in June, I started having intense vaginal itching shortly thereafter (that's when I remember it starting, anyway; I'm not entirely sure if I itched before that), then just over a month later in July, we engaged in unprotected sex again, except that this time it became especially painful the more we did it, and I would have syrupy yellowish discharge as well as pain during urination. I also bled after the very last time, but the gynecologist told me that must have been due to the fact that I'd missed two birth control pills in a row at that time. It's now been about three and a half weeks since I last had sex. All symptoms except for itching have ceased. (The pain and discharge were gone after about a week afterwards.) Even the unusual discharge is gone. Everything is normal except for the itching.

I'm currently taking medication for bacterial vaginosis (and I've almost finished all the pills), just in case I happen to have that, and although the itching has decreased slightly, it hasn't stopped completely.

So my questions are:
1) Do symptoms of STDs just go away on their own like that, or persist until treatment?
2) Is it likely that I contracted it from my current partner, due to the fact that my symptoms appeared only after he and I had unprotected sex for the first time (and the fact that he's the only person I have been with for the last 6 months)?

no, hpv will not cause all the issues you've had.

when they test for yeast and bacterial infections vaginally they only test for the "typical" suspects, sounds like perhaps you had something else going on that the medication took care of for you.  give it a little more time and things should be back to normal.

Thanks for your help, guys. :)

I just finished my BV medication and even the itching has subsided for the most part, except for light itching in the pubic region every now and then.

I also called the clinic today about my test results and I tested negative for chlamydia, gonorrhea, and trichomoniasis. Even yeast infection and bacterial vaginosis turned up negative. This is more than I could have asked for, and I'm extremely grateful, but I'm also curious as to what could have caused those unusual symptoms that I mentioned above? Do you guys -- or anyone else -- know of any infection (apart from the ones I tested negative for) that can cause those symptoms?

In October 2009, my Pap results showed ASCUS, and then in March it turned into LSIL, so I assume that means I have HPV; could it have been a symptom of that? I don't think it's a UTI because I don't feel it burn when I use the toilet. Or could it be something more serious, like HIV (G-d forbid)?

Thanks again!

You could have a yeast infection or a urinary tract infection.  I was treated just last week for bacteria vaginosis.  When I did have a UTI, it was painful and I really hated to go to the restroom bcuz of the intense pain.  And when I had the yeast infection....I itched really bad.  In both cases I thought my boyfriend had given me an std, but he hadn't.  The good think about my story is he came out and confessed that he had been cheating on me without him even knowing whether or not I had an std.  You really need to talk to your man....maybe you'll get the same response as I did.  But don't worry yourself. Just wait for your results to come back before you get all worked up over it.  Just let this be a learning experience for you as well as it did for me......always use protection....no matter how long you've been with him.
