Long story short, I'm a 26 years old woman and I got cheated by my 37 years old husband. He cheated on me on September 8th, started showing symptoms of gonorrhea on September 13th, got tested and treated for it (based on his symptoms) on September 14th. I was tested and preventively treated for it on September 18th. Later on, both his and my results came back positive for gonorrhea. I got it from him on September 12th because we had unprotected intercourse (he didn't know he had gonorrhea then).
So in my case there was 6 days between the day I contacted gonorrhea and the day I was treated for it (one injection and 4 pills of antibiotics, I don't know their names). I have read that even though it often takes months and years, gonorrhea can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease only in a matter of 2 days of being untreated! I scheduled a full pelvic exam with an OBGYN because I'm freaking out big time! I definitely do want to have kids later on in life and I know that PID can easily leave people infertile.
Should I worry about PID even though I was treated for gonorrhea within 6 days after contacting it?
Can PID sneak up even AFTER I got treated for gonorrhea?
Should I ask the OBGYN to treat me preventively for PID OR is it unnecessary because I already got treated for gonorrhea?
From what I understand, treatment of PID consists of a 14 day session of different antibiotics. Unfortunately our insurance plan sucks this year so I will likely pay hundreds of dollars for anything that happens at the gyno. :( I want to make sure that I get the treatment that is only absolutely necessary.
Thanks for answering.
