I had unprotected sex about ten days ago. Exactly 3.5 days later, I noticed an enormous "pimple" on the side of my penis shaft, about halfway up, just about where most of the hairs have disappeared, but there are still some very small ones. Stupidly, I tried to pop it/scratch it, which resulted in an erosion. Now I have a painful, circular lesion, which oozes a very small amount of puss. The surrounding tissue was red and slightly inflammed. I hoped it would heal up spontaneously, but after several days (where it got slíghtly worse) I started to treat it.
I am fairly certain it is a normal boil caused by Staph or even Strep, and am treating it as such so far. (I do hard labor, wearing heavy clothing, in dirty conditions). I wash it 3-4 times daily, removing any pus but careful not to abrade the area too roughly, apply a 1% chlorhexidine diglyconate salve, and keep it covered at all times with fresh micropore surgical tape. It seems to be doing better after 2 days of this treatment, the swelling is down, it is still a little red, but it is not nearly as painful.
Still, I would hate to find out that I have a serious STD (HSV-2 and Syphilis come first to mind) and would rather take the responsible approach, embarassing as it is, and get tested by my doctor. Am I being irrational? It would be nice to hear a professional opinion to either support or discount my own diagnosis.. Unless it is completely uncalled for, I will probably get screened. If so, should I wait some time for antibody buildup etc, or should I just go immediately?
Thanks.
PS: an HIV test goes without saying...
