inherited syphilis!!!

Help me on this please!
I have been with my partner for 5 yrs now.
I have not been with any other sex partner since.
I was just told I have HIV as well as Syphilis.
Now my Doctor is wanting to do some test in my spine area.
Says something that It may be hereditary???
can someone tell me if this is true...
Or explain it to me more???

Syphilis is not hereditary, you can be born with it if your mother is infected at time of birth and you were not treated, but again it is not hereditary.
