one time heterosexual unprotected sex

two days ago i had unprotected sex with a fairly random girl, i have no reason to believe she is infected with anything other than the fact that she has had many partners and may have been unprotected with them aswell.

My question is what are the chances of a male getting an std from an "infected" female for the diseases chlamydia, herpes, HIV and a few other of the most common std's.

Thank you so much for your time and knowledge, your efforts are informing and relieveing many many people.

From a single, unprotected encounter of vaginal sex, the risk of acquiring an STD is not "extremely" high, but also by no means non-existant.  I would get tested for chlamydia and gonorrhea, as these are very common bacterial STDs that are often asymptomatic.  If you are having unprotected sex, it would be a wise idea to get screened for all STDs, including syphilis, herpes, and HIV.  While HPV is extremely common, there is no test for males and the only way to diagnose is by the presence of genital warts.  Also, a lot of people who have an STD are not aware that they are infected.  That is why it is important to get screened yearly for STDs, especially if you are having sex outside of a mutually monogomous relationship.  Also, be sure to use protection in the future!
Good luck,

First of all - having sex with a stranger who puts up no fight with the condom issue is a huge red flag to me.

Most STD's usually show signs of presence within a week of sexual encounter.  Allthough, HSV-1 & HSV-2 can actually lie dormant in your body for months if not years.  I think I'm personally finding this out as we speak unfortunately.  Also, HPV is an extremely common STD.  Unfortunately there is no test for males unless a break out is present.

To address your question:

Your chances are extremely high.  Hold off on sex with anyone, even if protected until you are thoroughly checked out (complete blood work).  HIV may take up to 3 months to get an accurate test done.  Some doctors say that the HIV test is about 90%-95% accurate at the one month mark.

Otherwise - symptoms for most the other STD's (if you contracted them) should present themselves soon.

Good luck.
