penile discharge

In the recent months dating back to March 2011after receiving unprotected oral sex, i have notice a discharge from my penis. i went to the local STD clinic and had a swab test done and i was placed on doxycycline twice a day for 7 days. this seemed to stop the discharge. i received the test results back and all we negative of any stds. like i said the doxycycline cured the discharge. i questioned the results from the county clinic so i went to my doctor and had the test re-run. my doctor used the urine test to check for any STD's.. again all negative.. jump to june of 2011 the discharge return witha fishy oder. between March and June i had no unportected sexual encounters. i went back to the STD clinic and was placed on Metronidazole and i i drank a powder that tasted like bubble gum. again a STD check was done by swab. the clinic said there was some type of infection but they were not sure from what.. the discharge started to clear up.. to double check what the clinic did i went back to my family doc and had the urine test done. again all test were negative. the discharge has returned watery and has a fich smell. i have not had any sexual encounters protected or unprotected since april. and after 4 negative STD test and being placed on 3 different meds im at a lose now. please help..
thanks

It's funny how people on this forum and even the doctors will make bold and blanket statements about how Trich can't be contracted by oral and that condom protected means there was no risk of STD's.  It seems that within the past 3-4 weeks we've had people who contracted something while using protection or in your case you contracted Trich via oral.  Thanks for following up.

Wow...another round of Metro did the trick?  The clinic gives you one single does because they usually have low follow up rates.  Meaning patients don't usually come back.  However studies have shown that longer doses are more effective than the single does.

Also, Metro is the older medication and typically they prescribe Tinidazole (Tindamax) now, as it's more effective against Trich, which is what it sounds like you had.  However, this doesn't seem to fit with the mode of transmission of trich.  Usually it's from penile - vaginal contact.  Is oral sex the only thing you did?  I guess that goes to show you that anything is possible though.

When you say you had no other issues that normally come with an STD, that's an incorrect statement.  Discharge is the main issue that points to STD.  A person can show no symptoms as well, so there doesn't have to be symptoms for STD's to be present.  Also, if this was Trich, then all the standard tests will be negative since Trich isn't a bacterial infection, it's a parasite.  Keep us updating if the problem returns but congratulations for kicking this thing and staying on it.

of metr for the week seems to have stopped the discharge.. The odd thing is that I had no other issue that normally come with an std.. I'm stil going to the urologist to see what he says. When I went to the clinic they gave me the metr as a large dose. 800 mg at once. And my dr has given me 500mg twice a day for 7 days? Reason in the different approach?

The combination of those two antibiotics clears up most cases of NGU, however there is  about 10-20% of men who have persistent NGU.  There are two other alternative antibiotics that can be given in this case.  Erythromycine is one.  Here in the U.S. they recommend a 1 week treatment.  In the UK they recommend a 3 week treatment.

The other antibiotic is Moxifloxacin (avelox).  Be cautioned though, this is a very strong drug and should not be used except as a last line of treatment.

Follow up with a urologist is your best bet to determine if there are any urological problems but if it's STD related, don't expect to get much help.  Good luck and and let us know how things go.

was an infection by swab and seen under a microscope. Both the clinic and dr. Told me that the last rounds of atibiotics would lear it up. And if not to see a urologist. Which I am soon. What other antibiotics can be given?

welcome to the club.  Unfortunately there are some of us out there experiencing the same thing and we have not been able toget to the bottom of it, and niether has our doctors.

Do you know how the clinic diagnosed you with an infection?

Your clinic did the correct thing to treat you with Azithromycine (the bubblegum powder) and Metro.  This was an alternative treatment for NGU and/ or Trich.  Fishy smelling discharge is typical of Trich and the Metro should have cleared that up.  At this point you either have residual effects from the infection that will clear up over time, or you still have remaining infection.  I would return to the clinic to get checked out again since they diagnosed you with infection in the first place.  Hopefully this is residual effects for you.  Let us know what they say.

Unfortunately at this point, there isn't much more you can do except try other antibiotics or begin doing very costly PCR tests to determine what bacteria is still present (assuming there is some present).
