unsafe encounter - syphilis window

posted a similar question about hiv in the hiv forum.  this one is about my risk of syphilis.

i'm a gay guy who, after a night of drinking, had a foolish, unsafe encounter with another guy.  i had unprotected anal sex with him where i was the receptive partner, but fortunately he did not ejaculate.  still, i have been worried ever since, in spite of his assurances that he is negative for syphilis.  i was tested at 7 and 10.5 weeks post-exposure, both times negative.

i plan to get tested again at 13 weeks, since i have read that it can take up to 90 days to show up on a test.  yet i have read conflicting information that says 6 weeks is a definitive result, in which case i would be negative for sure.  which window period should i believe?  if it is 90 days, what would you think my chances are of a third negative test, given my two previous results?

Hey not trying to hijack the forum, but it goes along with this question.  I took Doxycycline shortly after a protected exposure just for a folliculitus outbreak.  After 7 weeks tested negative for everything.  My real question is, I was a little worried about syphilis since I've had some symptoms hinting its way, and I know Doxy is an alternative treatment, but if my Doxy wasn't long enough to treat syphilis, and I'd just ended it a week before my 7 week test, would that affect the results?

Again, not trying to hijack the thread, thought the question was similar and didn't want to start a whole thread on it.  Thanks

yes, absolutely.  i guess i was trying to say: drunk => impaired judgement => increased likelihood of unprotected/unsafe sex.  it's a mistake i know that i will never repeat.

update: tested negative again at 90 days. i was pretty confident anyway, but it's nice to know absolutely for sure that i am negative. lesson learned: drunk sex is unsafe sex!!

6 weeks from the time of exposure.  That is how long it takes for your body to show signs that it is trying to fight it off.

ok, so is it 6 weeks from the time of exposure, or 6 weeks from the chancre/first signs?  i'm just a little unclear on what you meant.  if it's 6 weeks post-exposure, then i am for sure not infected.

They say 6 weeks because that is enough time for your body to develop antibodies.  90 days is how long it may take for a chancre sore or the first signs of syphilis to show.
