I'm guessing the poster is youngish that his pals thought it was a hoot to trick him into drinking urine instead of beer. He very well might not have cmv - about half of adults don't have it in their 20's.

I don't think much of anything would be an issue from drinking urine due to the acidity of the the stomach during digestion but I still think it's always best to err on the side of caution and follow up with a medical provider.

Oh and monkeyflower - sure it's because of your job that you read up about the safety of water games - that's my line too ;)

You can't get HIV from drinking your own urine but check your facts ladies you can if there is blood in someone who is HIV positive and you drink it. Think about it...

You can get HIV that way...blood can be in urine. You should file a report with the police for assault!

That was a dirty trick!! Sounds like it could be criminal.  I agree that other than the bad taste you hae nothing to worry about.  In the marines we were taught for survival that you can drink your own urine 2 times before it becomes lethal..it sounds gross but you are also taught at last resort to share...food for thought there..

No one ever got HIV from drinking urine, either. Even if there happened to be blood in it, which is highly unlikely.

I thought most people have already contracted CMV by adulthood, and that it's truly a non-event for most (except maybe immunocompromised folks, or of course newborns). I also thought it wasn't commonly spread via drinking urine. But then I could be wrong ;-)

Anyway, I'm a sex educator and try to be particularly well informed when it comes to sexual minorities (an attempt to counter the lack of accurate info and the overwhelming associated stigma). I've done a fair amount of reading on watersports, and while there isn't a lot of medical info on the subject, the general consensus seems to be that it's pretty safe. I seriously wouldn't worry.

Well I wouldn't say that other people's urine is safe to drink - there are infections you can get from contact with urine - cmv comes quickest to my mind as something that is spread thru contact with urine. Be sure to follow up with your doctor with this for peace of mind just to err on the side of caution but really it sounds like you didn't drink a whole heck of a lot so there's really not a lot of risk - just the whole yuck factor.

Urine is sterile. You are fine.

I'm sorry that happened to you, I would be ticked if someone did that to me. But you can relax on the HIV/STD thing, there is no possibility of you acquiring any type of STD from that.
