Can this be a sign for HIV ?

Hello,

I am very worried and tensed since yesterday. I need your help and advice.

My gf recently undertook the pap-smear test after which her doctor said that it was abnormal papsmear test and they need to test her for HPV which upon my reading in related forums could be a possible cause for the abnormal test. We discussed about how this could have happened. I am the first guy she's been with.

Before her I only had sex one time and that was few initial minutes of unprotected sex and then protected sex with a sex worker (she was barely 18 i guess) who claimed to be clean but I am rather skeptical. It happened in January 2009. There were no primary HIV infection symptoms within the first 3 months or even a whole year. Then I got viral fever last year in Feb 2010 and this was the only time I fell sick between then and now (June 2011). As per HPV symptoms for men, I got a tiny blister on my penis head and one more at the joint between penis and main body but they healed and I never checked all this before and thought it to be normal. The online forums mention that HPV is fought off by body in 2 years.

I never tested for any STDs yet. I met my current gf in Feb 2011 and that was the first time after January 2009 that I had sex again. I am worried if I have HPV? or worse HIV? I was reading online and white blood cell counts can point towards some irregularity. I had a normal blood work done last year in July 2010 which showed my WBC to be 6000/microlt which was in normal range (which came down from 12000.microlt in Feb 2010) and Lymphocytes were 40%.

Please help, I am very worried. I barely can eat or sleep since yesterday when I got the news for the first time.

your last post was all about your hiv testing hence why I said what I did about hiv.   you didn't mention hpv at all in that post.

in the US, the gardasil shot is approved for males and females under the age of 29.

I was wondering if someone can give advice about the HPV vaccine for men? I was talking to the county healthcare clinic staff about the same but she said that government facilities dont approve the same?

Any insights?

I also had concern about HPV hence I think my posting here was justified and as per the post I thought responsible for posting the update at both places. I hope this addresses your concern.

I took the HIV test today at the county healthcare center and it came out negative. They did the RAPID hiv test. I was wondering whether how accurate is this test that they conduct because it was fairly fast (like 20 minutes)? The test results for other stds will be given to me in about a week but they assured me that atleast there is no HIV.

Should I go for more tests? I am seeing a doctor coming friday. Should I ask him to reorder the tests? Please advice.

It does not matter your WBC or Lymphocytes levels, you need to get tested for stds including HIV. Symptoms are very vague and non specific thus, not good indicators of evaluating whether or not you have HIV. I would suggest  to ease off your anxieties that you get tested or make a plan/appointment with your general physician or nearby clinic (if that is the case, you just need to walk in) with a clinic physician. Any abnormalities your girlfriend may have experienced could be many things. HPV can occur in anyone and most of the time, they would not lead to anything too serious. If you have any more questions about HIV, please post them in the HIV prevention community for more insight about HIV.
