I had sex with an airmen last week. We used a condom. The condom didn't break. Everything was fine. But I found out that he has slept with a lot of girls!! A LOT! Now I'm worried that he had a std and I could be infected? How effective are condoms? He said he's been tested and he's clean but it still worries me.

JaneDoe1287: You were at a very very very low risk that you caught herpes from the military man encounter you describe (since he used a condom with you, he probably uses condoms more often than not).  

A one time exposure with a condom for herpes is low.   However yes, a multi time exposure with condoms for herpes is a little higher.   However, I encourage you and terafrank to continue to read through these forums to see who, how, and why people are getting infected with STDs, like herpes.

hmm..I have always used condoms, and recently had an HSV2 positive test result.

Your response to this poster makes me *really* suspect my result is a false positive.

I would not however wanna give anyone any false hope that they are totally protected from getting herpes by using condoms, esp if my positive result turns out to be truly positive.

Condoms are definitely better than anything else out there but not 100%. I still think people should get tested before they have sex-it's the only way to make sure your partner is clean.

Your test gonorrhea and chlamydia tests were conclusive (you didn't need them to begin with

You didn't need an HIV test for the exposure yo describe.  

HIV and herpes test: if you had a real exposure (you didn't) would be 3 months after possible encounter.

None of us think you have herpes.   You can move on with your life.

A week after the incident I tested negative for chlamydia and gonorrhea. 13 days after the event I was examined by my GP and she did not see any signs of herpes/lesions. I was tested for HIV and Herpes 1 & 2 14 days after the event. My results were all negative. Is it safe to move on from this incident? I've had not symptoms other than my mind playing tricks on me.

that protects against 4 types of hpv if you completed all 3 shots. There are still other hpv infections that can occur.

hpv, syphilis and herpes are the main risks from protected sexual contact but even the risk of those are incredibly low.

really no reason for any testing from this encounter unless you just need the peace of mind.
