Could I have an oral STI?

I provided oral to someone nearly a month ago - another - guy. I didn’t know him and he never “finished” and he provided no recip to me. Lately I’ve been having a different sore kind of sore throat and I’m worried I may have picked up an oral STI. The kicker is that I’ve been on several antibiotics since then, so I’m unsure what my risk is. I’ve completed a 5 day Z-pack and I’m also on 10 days of ciproflaxin. Is there a reason for concern and how would I go about being tested for something? I have a serious amount of anxiety so if anyone could help, I’d greatly appreciate it!

Firstly oral STI are not all that common or at least not as common as the internet makes out.

They are also by in large they are asymptomatic and don’t cause illness of any kind.

You risk via giving oral sex Gonorrhoea, Rarely chlamydia, Herpes and syphilis.

In the absence of sores on your partners penis the risk for herpes and syphilis is so low that if I was you I wouldn’t worry.

Chlamydia is rare in the oral cavity and once present clears on its own over a few weeks not causing problems. Further depending on your dosage of tablets it could have cured you if infection was present. Again I would not worry about this.

Gonorrhoea is fairly common in the throat it seems fairly well adapted to living in the throat. 90% of infections are asymptomatic so just on balance of probabilities I doubt this is why you have a sore throat. Cipro and Z-pack are somewhat reliable against Gonorrhoea and again depending on the dosage may have cleared an infection if present. If not like chlamydia it’s short lasting and dosnt normally cause any long term problems. On the balance of probability that you partner had gonorrhoea (unlikely) you caught it (not every sexual interaction spreads STI every time if infected) not self cleared in a month and the antibiotics not worked I don’t see a realistic chance you have or even had gonorrhoea.

Unfortunately I can’t hand on heart say absolutely no risk, I just say the chances are minute 1 in several million. If that’s good enough for you then move on. If not testing is the only way forward a throat swab can be done now for accurate results.

Please feel free to follow up or perhaps give me more information on the dosage of meds used so I can perhaps help more.

Thank you so very much, I really appreciate it. I’m married and this was a hidden experience, so my anxiety has been significant.

As for more details, the past month has been a nightmare. This experience happened on 04/08. 2 days later started feeling sick, so I chatted my doctor who put me on a weeks worth of Augmentin. 5 days later I tested positive for COVID. On 4/22 I took a UA for chlam/gono, only because I was in a very dirty place and might’ve touched myself on something dirty - that came back negative. I spoke with a doctor again over tele and they put me on 1500 MG in a zpack. Even though I never received recip, I still had discomfort down below, so they put me on 10 days of ciproflaxin, twice a day, 500mg.

So all of this has led to what I now believe is a yeast infection in my scrotum (red, itchy, painful), and to coincide I have a weird sore throat. No swollen glands, no discharge. And continued massive anxiety :(
Well the UA for chlamydia and gonorrhoea was entirely pointless. It’s not spread by contact or transference on hands. No matter how dirty the place was. Your test was negative however so we can be sure that you are indeed negative (I was sure before the test, but you can leave all anxieties behind you do not have these two in your penis). So we can be sure whatever is happening symptom wise in your genital area is not STI related. If it continues seek medical advice but do not go down the STI root it’s simply not that. Antibiotics sometime cause a yeast overgrowth so you may be into something.

The single most important test you can do is a throat swab for chlamydia and gonorrhoea if you continue to be anxious. I seriously wouldn’t your chances are in the millions that you have either of these, expecially after all the meds. If I was in your situation I would put it al behind me and move on. But I scence and I don’t take it personally you would be more assured by negative tests.

I honestly don’t think your sore throat is anything STI related there is 100s of other likely causes before we get anywhere near STI. Garden variety cold or flu bugs are way more likely. Minor Allergic reaction. Or even stress.

If you do not test please do your best to forget about this encounter simply no realistic chance you are carrying anything. If you do test then please report the results, other reader may find comfort and interest in a result.
Thank you again for taking the time to provide such a clear view of things. Anxiety and stress can cause so much havoc, and trying self diagnosis always makes things worse. I appreciate the time you’ve taken to help me, I really do. I’ll step back and let this go, and realize that the whole experience was a good lesson learned. Please take care!
I’m glad I can help.
