STD Testing, How reliable?

How reliable are tests to see if you're completely STD free?

If I get my girl tested, will it be 100%?

I'm asking because there are so many cases of "HSV2 appeared in my monogamous relationship 10 years later" and apparently is a common thing.

Average to see every test is about a week, depends on where you go.  Some places offere some tests in 30 minutes.  Also to address your major/minor STD question, really its everyone's own scale, and depends on what you mean by major/minor.

But really, the viral STDs, are Major STDs, (HIV,herpes, hepatitis), because for most of those there is  no cure.

I also think syphilis and gonorrhea and chlamydia are major if left untreated (though these are curable), they lead to PID in women or inflamation of prostate and epydidymis is men, and syphilis affects the nervous system.  Other people would disagree with me, because in developing nations its caught early and treated with no big problems, so its seen as not a big deal.   NGU can be major, because its pain in a man's most sensitive area.  The infection puts a burned one's psycology (like all STDs do), and is associated with plevic pain, and affects most men's sexual life style.

Final question: How long does it take to see the results of a test? Primarly HPV/Herpes. I will be using a condom so the others are less of a concern.

The major ones are Herpes, Syphilis, Hepatitis, and of course HIV. The minor ones are Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, NGU, and trich.

Are there major and minor STDs? What are the major ones? What are the minor ones? Also, this girl I don't think has health insurance. I wouldn't mind paying for her. How much do you think it is for a conclusive all around test?

Major or minor, I'd rather have none =)

Well you have to ask for them (paper work), usally a phone call asking for them, and they will mail them to you.  Or something of that nature.

so there's papers that they give you? In the past my doctor just told me. I've never received any papers.

And thanks, I will try that conversation to see how to goes!

In a serious conversation say:

"I would like to talk to you about something very important to me.  Its about my health and your health.   I just want you to  know that I have been tested for all major STDs, and here are my results.   (show them to her if you would like to see results yourself).
Thank God I have nothing and would like to stay that way."

When they hears this they think about it. Right.  (I know because someone told me this)
You can say, "I don't do anything with any anybody unless I know they are clean."

another question for ya.

This girl I know... I don't know her very well... Not well enough to openly ask her to get tested and show me the results. How do I get a girl that I don't know that well to go and get tested with me? Will the doctor tell me her results?

To get to know a girl well enough for testing, you sleep with her.
To sleep with her, you need to be sure she's clean. Get my dilemma?

8 or more weeks HIV testing is completely reliable as well. That is how long ELISA tests are designed to pick up antibodies at 100% accuracy. The CDC recommends additional four weeks to be completely sure, hence, the 3 month mark.

Yes, you are in the clear. All it takes to std free is to be in a monogamous relationship.

So theoretically if I haven't slept with anyone in 6 months and neither has she. Then we both get tested for everything, then we'll be in the clear?

Gono, NGU, Chlamydia, Trich- 6 days to a week post exposure
Syphilis- 4-6 weeks post exposure
Herpes- 4 months (unless the obvious herpetic lesions appear before then, then, immediate physician evaluation is needed.)
HIV- 3 months post exposure.

There are certain time periods or waiting times in which you can be certain on your results.

My family doctor says tests may not be 100% accurate for all STD's such as herpes. Is this true? Where can I find more information?

You still don't get it... do you?

The tests now in the works are completely reliable. As far you are in a monogamous relationship and both of you have been tested, you really have nothing to worry about as you guys are both aware of each others status. How long ago did you guys do testing?

Oh I put that in quotes because it's not in my relationship- I've just read about a lot on these forums and the doctor here says it's common. I don't have STD's as far as I know and I don't want to catch anything. So to be safe, I want to know if tests are 100% accurate. Trying to stop the spread, know what I'm saying?

What I am saying is have any of you two had HSV before? If not, how could you say you had HSV2 as a common thing?

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying... Anyone with insights to my questions?

This must be checked out if there has been so many cases of HSV2 occurring in your relationship.  How can you be certain you have HSV2 existent in your relationship? Do you have HSV2 or does she?
