Throat infection I should worry about?

So I was with a girl on Thursday. We kissed, performed Oral on each other with no condoms and had sex with condom. That Sunday night I began having a bad sore throat mostly on my left side. I woke up with bad sore throat, swollen lymph bodes, and white spots in the back of throat, maybe like 3 total. I went to doctor on Tuesday and she didn't seem too concerned, said it's probably strep or maybe mono. No other symptoms, maybe a headache. She gave me antibiotics and did a throat culture. Today is Thursday and my throat is feeling a little better. But I was convinced it was strep but they called today and said it was negative. Should I be worried about it being something more serious?

I've read that oral herpes can show up the next day. Google image search oral or throat herpes and see if it looks the same.

Well Ive had oral herpes aka hsv-1 for quite a while now, which is the one that causes cold sores, I've had it for about 2 years and got it from kissing my gf. This is fairly common and 65% of people, probably more have this. Hsv-2 is genital herpes and to get it inside the mouth is very very uncommon (doesn't mean it doesn't happen) but highly doubt it...

While it might not have been strep, it could be just a regular virus.  Don't jump to conclusions when you don't have to.
