Trying to figure out if it was hemmorroids or gonorrhea the whole time.

I’m a female, 25 years old.

So here’s the deal and I’m not proud, but I had unprotected anal sex and vaginal sex with a new partner about a month ago, the days following I developed all the symptoms of hemmorrids.

Constant dull pain, and there was even an external bump that was swollen, some bleeding with BMs, and possible internal ones too from what my doctors saw.

I treated them with suppositories, prep h, and used the lidocaine cream they have too because it was unbearable at times. I treated for 3 weeks.

I went to my student health center and pcp who both agreed the external one was too large to treat and I have an appointment with a gi doctor to talk about possible removal.

Last week there was an sti walk in clinic and I got tested and came back positive for gonorrhea. They treated was a shot of antibiotics and also four pills. I can’t remember the names but it was standard treatment.

With two days the hemmorroid symptoms are now mostly gone, but there is still the small external one, but it’s no longer causing pain. More like a skin tag.

So my question is, was it ever hemmorroids or was it likely that I had a rectal gonorrhea infection? Or both?

Would the antibiotics have cleared up the hemorrhoids?

I thought for sure it was the most recent partner I had because within days of sleeping with him these symptoms started, but he just informed me that someone else he has been sleeping with for a long time tested negative for everything. He is getting tested tomorrow. I have only had two new partners this year, and no anal intercourse with the other, and we were together in February and I had no symptoms.

Antibiotics (which sound like a shot of ceftriaxone and pills of zithromax, which is the standard treatment), wouldn't clear up hemorrhoids.

It doesn't like like rectal gonorrhea - it wouldn't cause bumps like that, though since you had unprotected anal sex, it's possible that at least some of the symptoms were caused by that. The anal sex could have caused the hemorrhoids.

Since you are having anal sex (and vaginal, really) make sure to make it protected and use plenty of lube. That will help prevent tearing of the tissue inside the rectum, and obviously help prevent the transmission of STDs, but you know that already. :)
