Ureaplasma treatment

Hi all,

I’ve read about Ureaplasma online and it seems like there is unclarity on how someone can get it and also on the treatment and bacterial resistance. It seems like some doctors have suggested Doxycycline and others suggested Azithromycin as first treatment.

Can you please answer these questions?

1. Should Doxycycline be the first treatment to try for 1 week, or Azithromycin should be tried first, or both should be tried one after other before the next test? (Considering there is no other concern for the patient). Should the person get tested after 1 treatment before trying other?

2. Is Ureaplasma harmless in most cases if left untreated?

3. Can you get Ureaplasma from protected oral?

Thank you!

First, please keep ALL your related posts to one thread.  It makes it too hard to skip around.  And clogs up the forum.  So, one active thread and ask your questions all on there.

Doctors make decisions as to what agent to use first.  Guidelines are just that.  If you are working with a doctor, I'd assume the treatment protocol they give you is correct.  Self diagnosing and medicating is never advised.  What treatment is given first usually is dictated by specimen of the results.  Which bacteria they are seeing.  Doxy is used first sometimes and Azithromycin is used first other times. https://www.infectiousdiseaseadvisor.com/home/decision-support-in-medicine/infectious-diseases/genital-mycoplasmas-ureaplasma/  and https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321636#prevention

Either or really. Azithromycin is a single dose tablet where as Doxy is a week course. Aziz is usually given first line mine.

Left for a little while then POTENTIALLY yes but there are not many studies to back much up.

3. Can you get Ureaplasma from protected oral?

No. Infact it is very hard to get this STI from oral regardless.
