When would you feel symptoms

I had unprotected sex 5 days ago and have had no symptoms of anything.  I went to the DR. and got a heavy dose of antibiotics just in case it was clamidida or gonnorhea.   I know sometimes it can stay dormant for a while but when do most people experience the first symptoms?

There are certainly places that have higher rates, but overall in the US, less than 1% has HIV, according to the CDC.

According to the CDC, Pennsylvania ranked 7th in the country for AIDS cases (not HIV infection) as of 2005, the latest date available.

Philadelphia County has the highest rates of all stds in PA.

However, when you look at the total number of HIV cases, it still is just a small percentage of the population.  You can read all about the stats here - http://www.dsf.health.state.pa.us/health/lib/health/hivaids_biannuals/padoh_hiv-aids_semi-annual_summary_december_31_2006.pdf

Every state collects data for HIV/AIDS, so just google your state and HIV statistics and you can find yours.  Other countries collect data as well.

It was 2 500mg antibiotics that were to be taken together.  He said they would stay in my system about 5 days.  I dont remember what medication it was, I am allergic to penicillin so it wasnt that.

I have to start out by saying that I can't stand when docs just give meds based on a possible exposure.  That's what causes bacteria to be resistant to meds.  If you had symptoms, I could understand treatment, but without symptoms, its a waste.

In any case,  your chances of herpes are slim, as HIV is not at all common in the US - less than 1% has it.  Your chances of getting herpes from a one time encounter with someone who has no symptoms is also very low.

The chances of getting chlamydia are higher, and possibly gonorrhea.  What meds did you get?

i think, there may not be much of a chance that youve caught something.... but theres still that chance.... i think with herpes ul defo get signs though... :S im not certain about that so dont quote me... but im PRETTY sure ul get symptoms... with the hiv... there are no symptoms at all so ur jus guna have to wait for a bit n then get a blood test done. 9 times outta 10 it comes back clear so dont worry too much but.... u should get tested.... ur gp saying testing now wouldnt be useful.... thats kinda confused me.... :S i thought ur supposed to get tested as soon as possible with stuff like that :S i dno... might be woth ringin ur local clinic and asking what they think.... its completely confidential aswell so like.... nothing to worry about. theyl probly sort you out with an appointment aswell so.... yh i think thats ur best bet... might be worth googling it or something if you dont know where ur nearest one is.

yeah he said testing now would not be useful.  I am just worried about herpes and hiv.  we had unprotected vaginal sex for probably 2 minutes, no orgasm.

i had this worry..... the way i sorted it was i went to the gum clinic.... i think thats the only way to be sure :S cause ur right u can have no symptoms at all...... for years.... it leaves some women unable to have children cause they dont know about it.... i think ur jus guna have to wait n have it checked out. didnt ur dr. tell u when u got the antibiotics?
