worried

Would red pimple-like bumps on my lower legs and thighs be an indication of hiv? They are pretty isolated and some almost resemble bug bites or something but I'm a big hypochondriac and really want to just rule out aids.  ive only had sex with 1 girl, and i did get hsv2 from her.  2 months after the last time i had unprotected sex with her my hiv test was negative. How conclusive is the test after 2 months? She was also tested while we were dating and her hiv test was negative. The only thing that throws me for a loop is that her hsv tests were also negative which clearly was a false negative (it wasnt a type specific test). So now I'm wondering how common false-negative hiv tests are.  Any time I have a symptom of anything i instinctly believe it is the most serious thing it could be. I know i sound might sound crazy but if anyone could shed some light I'd appreciate it.

False negatives are very uncommon, and if it had been more than 3 months since her last partner, her test is conclusive.

Any further HIV questions, post in the HIV forum.

You seem to have a lot of anxiety over STDs.  I don't know if this anxiety is in other areas of your life, but we have a good anxiety forum here you might want to check out.

Have you had hsv2 symptoms?  Perhaps yours was a false positive, and hers wasn't a false negative.

hey aj,
sorry for posting in wrong forum but i appreciate you answering my question. I know logic seems to point away from hiv but i thought i had read that was a symptom.  Also do you have any idea if false negative tests are common or not?

HIV questions belong in the HIV prevention forum, but no, this is not a sign of HIV, and at 2 months, your test is about 95% accurate.

She was negative though, so you have no worries.
