Abdominal Issues, GI/Stool Problems after Possible STD Exposure

Dr.,

Oct. 2nd I was with 2 prostitutes. Received unprotected oral - 4 minutes from both. Gave protected anal sex - 5 minutes with one.

Oct. 4th Stomach began gurgling. Steady penis shaft tingling, not during urination.

Oct. 9th Had physical and STD Tests - all negative. Had to fast 12 hours. Given flu shot, rocephin and zythromycin. I ate Chinese food. That night began having dark, tarry diarrhea. Lasted a full week. Guilt about cheating, my company cutting jobs and worrying about either Cancer or HIV has killed me.

My stools have since became either loose, grainy texture, pencil-thin or pale and mud-like. Today, they were pretty dark, but still loose. Rarely full blown diarrhea. They are never firm like they once were.

9 weeks ELISA and 9.5 weeks PCR. Both negative. Heartburn came and went, think it was stress.

9.5 Weeks Colonoscopy and Endoscopy. Biopsy results said probable Celiac Disease. Awaiting blood panel confirmation. My GI said exam was normal, a little stomach irritation from a possible virus that's running it's course.

My stomach's been gurlging since October. It began with upper abdomin discomfort (liver?). Most discomfort is around my lower and left abodomin (unsure if it's left kidney or not). Like gas is trapped and moving around. When I lay down on either side, my stomach somtimes hurts. At night, the gurlging seems to wake me up like clockwork around 4am. Then I fall back asleep. I just started having lower back pain/pressure above my gluteous. It's subsided and I think it's stress. 2 weeks ago my left neck lymph node began to swell, not badly but I kept messing with them to check. That is gone too. Now, I don't bloat so much, but still have abdominal discomfort and is sensitive to the touch. No temperature, joint pain or jaundice or any other symptoms I can note. I am afraid to eat so I've lost weight.

What could I have? A stomach bug, Hepatitus, HIV? I don't think it's Celiac because of the timing of this.

Please help

I saw these follow-up comments before I replied above.  They make no difference in my opinion or advice.  As to whether celiac disease can be triggered by any STD or HIV, the answer is no.  Your GI doc is the one to answer other questions about possible triggers, including whether azithromycin or other antibiotics might do that.

That's all for this thread.

No STD causes the sorts of symptoms you describe.  You can be sure that you have nothing that you caught from your commercial sex contacts, except for the chance that anxiety about those events is contributing to some of your symptoms. It sounds like you are under more than adequate care from your own doctors.  Continue to work with them toward a diagnosis and proper therapy.

Best wishes---- HHH, MD

If it is Celiac, can that be triggered by an infection with an STD like HIV?

Doctor...

A few notes I failed to mention above:

I do have some heartburn from time to time.  Sometimes I think I have pain around my liver.  If I push under my rib cage or upper abdomin, it is sensitive.

I am also worried that the pain in my lower back is in my kidneys.  It aches when I sit in a chair or even lay down in the bed.  It is mostly on my right side of my lower back.

Neither my PCP nor GI did any stool samples.  I am thinking about going tomorrow morning to get the following:

-stool sample
-Hepatitis A,B,C test
-H. Pylori test
-liver tests
-kidney tests
Thanks again.

I am so worried about what this might be.  The guilt of my actions and the possibility of infecting my girlfriend with something is killing me.
