Most bacterial infections clear up on their own. Before antibotics were developed, most people recovered from pneumonia. Gonorrhea is no different.
Disseminated gonococcal infection (arthritis due to gonorrhea) would show up within a few weeks of catching it. And in any case, this happens in less than 1% of people with gonorrhea, even if the infection is never treated.
Let me know when you have been treated and your partner has been tested and treated. Until then, I'll have no more comments or advice.
Thanks again for the info doc . Yeah I did a urine specimen as my test. So Gonorrhea really usually clears up on its own? What about info that warns about it effecting joints and stuff like that?
Sorry to hear about the surprising test result. Presumably you provided a urine specimen, and that's what turned up positive. Is that correct?
Gonorrhea can be acquired by oral sex, but usually would cause obvious symptoms (discharge from the penis, usually with painful urination); and gonorrhea usually clears up on its own within a few weeks, so a positive result after 6 months is unlikely. Therefore, I agree that you probably caught it more recently, i.e. from your regular partner. As you suggest, for sure she needs to be treated, and it would be best for her to be tested for it as well. It is best to test and treat at the same visit -- i.e. don't wait for the test result to give treatment.
The standard treatment is an injection of ceftriaxone plus oral azithromycin or doxycycline. The shot isn't a bad one -- small volume through a thin needle and not very painful.
Well I did not go to the doctor because my lesion had completely healed within a week. I did take an STD panel test just to be sure and for peace of mind though. As you said Syphilis and HIV were negative but surprisingly Gonorrhea came out positive! I never seemed to have symptoms for it though. I don't think this came from my brief oral experience. I will make an appointment to my doctor asap! Are there any oral treaments to take for this as apposed to a shot? I also will have to explain to my gf the test results and have her treated. Or do you recommend her just being tested first? Thanks again!
It's very unlikely that abnormally enlarged or inflamed lymph nodes would persist more or less unchanged for several months. Most likely they aren't abnormal; self-assessment of enlarged lymph nodes is notoriously unlreliable. But if you're convinced they are abnormal, see a doctor. In any case, I doubt this has anything to do with your penile "burn" or whatever it was.
Sorry I should specify, when welding metal it throws alot of sparks. I have little burns on my arm as well. I noticed the spot on my penis the next morning after I was welding. Which kind of makes me think that is what caused it . The burns on my arm also itched that day as well. The sparks are pretty hot and will burn straight through pants sometimes. The spot on my penis also seems to be healing about the same time the ones on my arm are. Just thinking it is a possibility.
I am still confused about what could cause the lymph node swelling though. They havent gone down and it has been a few months.
I'm not sure I understand how your penis could be burned. Were you without clothing? What was the source of the sparks?
Wow that was a fast reply! Sorry for the reply above . I didn't even notice your reply to my question already. Anyways thank you so much for your help and all the help you give everyone on here. It really gives me peace of mind.
I have not started any new drugs or meds lately, I am pretty sure this may be a burn from sparks recently. It has happened to me before in that area. I will go see my doc about it to be sure it does not get infected or anything.
Again thank you!
Welcome to the forum. Thanks for your question. My main advice is that you promptly see a doctor or clinic to evaluate your penile lesion. However, I doubt you have any STD or that it has anything to do with the brief oral sex exposure 6 months ago.
Oral sex is generally safe, with low risk for all STDs and zero risk for some. And STDs are especially unlikely with such a brief exposure as you had. Your negative HIV and syphilis blood tests prove for sure you acquired neither of these infections.
My guess is that whatever the cause of your penile lesion, it isn't an STD. In general, non-STD problems are more common causes of penile rashes than any STD. Most of the innumerable conditions that can cause dermatitis or other skin problems anywhere on the body can involve the genital area.
Herpes is a consideration for many inflammatory genital lesions. Conceivably you could have acquired HSV-1, the cause of oral herpes, during the exposure 6 months ago, but I doubt it very much. Your description is not at all typical of herpes, and if you had been infected at that time, the first symptoms would typically have occurred within 10 days (usually 2-5 days) after the event.
Beyond those comments, I won't try to guess at the cause of this problem. However, I do wonder whether you have started any new drugs or medications of any kind in the past 3-4 weeks. Part of your description is consistent with the kind of allergic reaction called "fixed drug eruption", and the penis is a common site for such reactions.
As I indicated above, I urge you to promptly see a doctor or clinic for direct examination of the lesion, then follow the advice you receive about it. In the meantime, you need not be concerned about STDs from the exposure described -- and for sure you don't have syphilis.
I hope this has helped, and also hope you'll return with a follow-up comment after you have been examined and let me know the diagnosis.
Best wishes-- HHH, MD
Its been about 2 weeks and it is starting to heal. It kind of resembles the burns on my arms due to welding sparks . Could this be a chancre at 6 months since exposure? Should I get tested again? Do you think I really have anything to worry about?
