Burning and Pain

A few weeks before New Years, I had unprotected oral sex with a prostitute.  Doing some internet research, I found your site and after reading all the different questions and answers, I felt good that this was low risk.  Now the past 4 weeks there has been a tingling on the tip of my penis, feels like there are pins pushing out of my penis, the area between my shaft and anus feels like it is burning.  I do notice some burning in my penis but not when I go to the bathroom.  The soles of my feet sometimes feel like they are burning.  The only thing I noticed on my body is a very small red spot on the tip of my penis that looks more like a very small cut, no puss or anything else from it.  It has been there for about a month.
I am clueless and have a Dr. appointment Friday afternoon.  Depending on what site I check, it sounds like I have herpes or nothing at all.  I know that is not alot to go on, but what are your thoughts.  There is lots of guilt because I have been married a few years and this would end it. (I only include that info because every other married jerk like me does )

That is correct.  But most herpes doesn't tingle at all.  Too much is made of that symptom on various websites.  In 30+ years in the STD business, I have never seen a single person with genital herpes whose main symptom was tingling.

Herpes just is not a realistic explanation for your symptoms.  Even if you had a positive lab test for HSV-2, I would conclude you had asymptomatic herpes plus tingling caused by something else.  Let it go.

Quick follow up to your answer, I think I understand it as the tingling could be a symptom of herpes but it would follow with the blisters and I would not have these sensations so long without  the breakout, is that correct?

Thanks, I   kind of thought that would be the response, maybe a nice big bottle of Wild Turkey to kill the stress and the rest will work out from there.  After reading all the different post, I felt like I was wasting your time, I just wanted another opinion before Friday and now look in a different direction.
Thanks again,
btw, my best friend has HSV2 and was going to lend me your book, but I thought it would be too hard to keep private.  He said it is several years old, but it gave him lots of answers.

No STD causes the symptoms you describe.  A slight case could be made for the feelings at the tip of your penis, but even that really doesn't fit, especially in the absence of abnormal discharge, visible sores, or pain during urination.  The anal symptoms and burning of the feet clearly aren't due to any STD.

So between "herpes or nothing at all", it's definitely nothing.  Herpes does not cause such symptoms.  Although such things are listed among the symptoms herpes causes, this only means that some people with herpes lesions first notice tingling or burning; then when they look, they realize that the symptom was due to the sore.  Herpes does not cause the sort of thing you describe.  Further, herpes symptoms never persist for than a week or so at a time, definitely not weeks on end.

So I agree with the provider who told you everything is fine.  Of course, that's physically fine.  Certain emotion could be contributing to this sort of symptom, as you suggest yourself.  And I have said many times that when someone suspects his or her own symptoms have a psychological origin, usually s/he is correct.

Bottom line:  Don't worry about herpes or other STD.  Of course re-visit your provider if you remain concerned about the symptoms.

Good luck--  HHH, MD

I just read my post and forgot to mention I had a urine culture (not sure what he tested for, he knew what I had done) and he told me everything was fine.  That was about 10 days ago
