Can Trich be treated with Cefriaxone?

I'll just list the events to make this succinct for you.

1. Had unprotected sex with a new partner.
2. Few days later noticed a bizarre smell.
3. Next few days had some green odd smelling discharge.
4. This continued alternating between green/grey, watery even some blood.
5   Had unprotected sex with another partern about 2 weeks later.
6.  The next morning I noticed a great deal of green foamy foul smelling discharge. (maybe 2 days later don't recall).
7.  He also called me on that same day and said had a terrible stomach ache and burning in his penus.
8. We all went for std testing, my previous partner, new partner and myself.
9. My dr. noticed some lesion in my vulva that she wasn't sure what they were and had them cultured and I was treated (at my insistance) for Gon. Chlyd. Syph. and herpes.  the day of my std testing.
10. Was given these antiobics and meds to take.  ACYCLOVIR 200 MG ORAL CAP, FLUCONAZOLE 200 MG ORAL TAB, AZITHROMYCIN 250 MG ORAL TAB.
11. Then had frothy milky discharge after I peed a day or so after taking these meds.
12. All our std tests came back neg. But, since I and my partner had these symptoms I wasn't satifisfied and made another appt. 7 days later. (from the first std tests)
13. The morning of my appt. I douched because my boyfriend and I had unproteced sex. I thought it was safe since all our texts came back negative.
14. Went in for my second STD testing.  Had all the same tests again. (but remember I had douced just a couple hrs prior.)
15. They treated me again for all the same std's since I had unproteced sex with the same partner I may have infected earlier. These are the meds I was given the second time: AZITHROMYCIN 250 mg,   FLUCONAZOLE 200 MG ORAL TAB, CEFTRIAXONE SODIUM PER 250 MG FOR INJECTION.

Now for my question. Does is sound like I have/had Trichomonas?  My second question is will the Ceftriaxone treat the possible Trich?

I would not worry about HPV.  For better or worse, at present HPV is a "fact of life" and most people have it or will have it at some point in the future.  Despite this fact, only a tiny minority of persons with HPV get the consequences of infection (primarily women and primarily cancer and pre-cancerous lesions).  HPV is the most commonly acquired STD.  Over 85% of sexually active women will have HPV infection at some time in their lives.  The figure for men is less well studied but similar.   In some HPV will cause genital warts, in others it will not cause warts but may lead to changes in PAP smears.  In nearly everyone who gets HPV, warts or otherwise, the infections will resolve by themselves without therapy in 8-24 months.  In a very small minority of women, HPV infection can persist and lead to the pre-cancerous lesions that PAP smears detect and which can then be treated.  the importnat thing for you to do in terms of HPV is to keep getting your regular PAP smears.  Take care.   EWH

Sorry, ceftriaxone clearly does not cur truich.

As far as whether to wait or not, I doubt that you really want to continue to tolerate this discharge. If you wish to seek treatment I would do it sooner than later and try to get this behind you once and for all.

My guess is that your partner's symtoms were co-incidence.  I would believe the lab tests. That's the reason we do them- to either confim our impressions or give us the information we need to then go on to work harder to sort things out.  EWH

Welcome to the Forum and thanks for the detailed history.  i have several comments, some of which have been alluded to in your other interactions on some of the other Community sites.

1.  There are few STDs which are associated with a change in the odor of a person’s vaginal discharge. The one exception to this is that while it is not an STD, in some women sexual activity can disrupt the bacteria normally present in the vaginal to cause bacterial vaginosis.  This is a syndrome characterized by a malodorous vaginal discharge, homogeneous gray to greenish discharge which tends to get worse (both odor and sometimes amount) following sex (sound familiar.  It is treated with metronidazole taken twice daily for 7 days.  Interestingly this is not an STD but a disruption of the balance of bacteria present in the normal vagina.  Since it is not an STD, your partner does not need treatment.
2.  I presume you were tested for trich.  If you were not, you should have been..If  you have trich however, the treatment for BV will cure it as well.
3.  I hope you took 4 of those azithromycin tablets.  A singe 250 mg dose is not enough to cure STDs.
4.  Ceftriaxone cures gonorrhea but not BV or trich.

Hope these comments  help. I'm betting you have BV. EWH

Thank you Dr. Hook.  I go in tomorrow for my 3rd visit in as many weeks for this same condition.  I'll again request the Metrizondale, strenuosly this time. If she tries to give me the same treatment, yet again. I'll refuse to take any other antibiotics. Although I haven't been with my boyfriend in the current week so her concern of reinfection of a condition neither of us is confirmed to have via lab results shouldn't be a worry for her this time.  Thank you again so much for your advise and opinion. This really has been a nightmare the past few weeks over this darn condition that is recurrently misdiagnosed.  Thank you!

There is a high risk of BV recurring even if it resolves.  I hate to get between you and your doctor but I would suggest a second opinion, perhaps from your local STD Clinic (Health Department).  Why should you continue to suffer symptoms that might get better with treatment. On the other hand, your doctor keeps treating you for something that the tests show you don't have.  Einstein said that a definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing again and again and to expect different results.  EWH

I have requested the antibiotic Metronizodale.  Yet, my dr. has continued to deny methis antibiotic because she keeps thinking I need to be treated for Gon/Chlym./shyph.. Even though my std labs are all negative, as are my current boyfriends, and previous partner.  I'm guessing she is assuming I have an std, because I told her I did when I made the visit. I thought that's what I had. Anyhow, the first visit she didn't want to give me Metronizodale because she was sure I had either genital herpes/gon/clym. So, she treated me for these while waiting lab results.  I went back a week later requesting the Medtronizodale. Again, she treated me for the same previous stds. because my boyfriend and I had unprotected sex.  All our labs were negative so we assumed it was safe.  Anyhow, her concern was reinfection from that and gave me all the same anti. again.  I am now convinced it is BV that I have, though my symptoms have just about all gone away. So, my question now is, will it go away on it's own? Or, do I need the Metronizodale even though my symptoms are subsiding?

Well, the discharge is no longer happening so no problem there.  I thought that trich. would remain even when the symptoms go away.  But, I will take your advice and ask my dr. for the Flagyl and get this off my mind once and for all.

This is my last question! Neither mine nor my partners dr. tested for HPV. Do you think HPV is a consideration, or should I just quit worryiing my pretty little head about it and get on with my life?  :)

Thank you.

OH, yes I was tested for trich as was my partner. Both tests negative. (This is not typical behavior for me I've only had 3 partners in my lifetime. It was just a bizarre set of circumstances recentely).

Thank you for the prompt response.  I was tested for BV with the first round of std testing. Everything came back negative.  I strongly requested my dr. give me the antibiotic for trich. "just in case".  My dr. said the Cetrafiaxone would kill anything and not to worry about it.  I would completely agree with you about the BV if not for my new partner having the severe stomach cramping and burning in his penus just days after being with me. That is what leads me to beleive it's not just isolated with me and an STD.  Yes, I did take all 4 of the azithromycin tablets.  I'm considering waiting a month or so since I've taken SO many antibiotics in the past 7 days and then request the Metronizodale which is what treats trich right?  What are your thoughts on that?
