herpes??

I am a 22 year old male who has had sex with about 30 women.  About a month and a half ago I had my first STD test of my life for everything in the book.  I never ever ever noticed anything that would make me think I had genital herpes.  It came back positive for HSV type 1.  Since then I have been completely paranoid about it being genital that I had acquired at the earliest 3 months earlier and I am wondering if this is absurd.  Me and my girlfriend broke up and she started having sex and dating her ex boyfriend.  2 weeks after we broke up and she had gotten back with her ex  she gave me oral sex.  I thought nothing of it.  We continued to have unprotected vaginal sex for 3 months while she was having sex with her ex but no more oral.  2 times while having sex afterwards my penis was covered with blood and so was her vagina.  This is when I began to become parnoid.  She first told me her bf was very rough and  thats why.  Then she told me she went to the gyno and they told her it was a yeast infection and she asked if I ever was itchy down there because it can sometimes be passed to men.
I'm wondering if she acquired hsv type 1 orally or genitally and then passed it to me in those 3 months genitally?  The oral sex was probably around January 20th and I had the STD test done on april 10th?  Is her vaginal bleeding during sex due to genital herpes that she gave me?  Never thought had STD BEFORE and never had visual symptoms at all, until now I constantly check.

Half the population has a positive test for HSV-1, mostly from childhood infection of the mouth--with or without subsequent recurrent oral herpes (cold sores).  It could be you had a genital HSV-1 infection somwhere along the line, but since you apparently have had no genital symptoms, there is no particular reason to suspect it.  Further, asymptomatic shedding is uncommon for genital HSV-1 (at least, a lot less common than for genital HSV-2), so the chance you will ever infect someone by genital sex is low.  Your partner's genital bleeding does not increase her risk.

Bottom line: this isn't worth a minute of anxiety or emotional energy.  I'm not sure your concerns are 'absurd', but you really shouldn't worry about it.

Good luck--  HHH, MD

One thing I couldnt fit I feel is important is that sometime shortly after the oral sex occurred with my exgf my buddy came over and gave me a hair cut.  After he left I didnt shower and had hair on me and I masturbated.  I immediately felt sharp pain like i was being stabbed with a pin on the side of my penis.  I looked and there was abnormalities that were very very senistive.  Looked almost like splinters but thinking back maybe scabbish.  I pulled them off and out with tweezers and the skin was a little raw obviously but dint really hurt while I masturbated now.   The marks went away within maybe 2 days and never returned.  My buddy the next day told me about hair splinters that barbers get.  I was almost positive thats what happened.  I had had no other prior symptoms visual to that nite.  Never itched never burned and there was nothing there before that nite.  Could this have been my primary hsv type 1 outbreak.  Never thought about it again til I got my STD test and it was positive for hsv type 1.  Since I've been paranoid?  Never had a cold sore like I've seen my mother have before that I can recall.

I would also like to explain the small slits.  There was an area int he crease of my thigh and scrotum that looked alot like pictures of jockitch i've  looked at on the computer.  At 2 separate times in the past 2 months right in the crease and only here the skin seemed like it broke a bit into maybe 4 slits that were redder and more tender then the rest of the jockitch type abnormality, and this was inside the jockitch.  1st time the slits went away.  Next time I seen them i had it for 2 days and then went in the ocean for about 4 days.  After the 1st day the slits were gone and and the jockitch was fading and almost totally gone by the end of 4 days.  Was this a genital herpes outbreak?  I peed on them 1 time and it dint burn.  The second time i did and it think i burned a little?  Are these herpes?  What should I look for?

The limitation on the length of the initial questions on this forum is intentional.  The moderators, like me, don't even see the follow-up comments before responding to the initial question, and are not obligated to respond to any follow-up comment.  I only skimmed yours.  The additional information doesn't change my opinion.  But if you think the "slits" are abnormal, show them to a health care provider.
