Concern for herpes

May 20 evening -I had unprotected intercourse with a new partner. Next morning woke up and saw that there was period blood on my penis

May 21 day- Mowing lawn felt tingling in penis. Went to the bathroom and felt burning sensation at base of penis pelvic area and when done urinating felt burning in tip of penis.

May 22 throughout day - felt light burning sensation in penis most of the day, more intense when I urinated.  That evening had a large stream of urine come out which caused a lot of pain. Also blood in urine.

May 23-25 Blood in urine once a day. still burning sensation.

May 25 day- started to feel itchy sensation inside of left thigh that has still not gone away. Saw online that this in conjunction with urinal burning can be related to herpes.

May 27 morning-went to hospital. Did urine tests. no abnormalities from urine test. No lesions on penis. no discharge. Dr. stated that she would do a culture test on urine that would take 2 days.  She also advised me to go for STD test at the 14 day mark (post unprotected sex)  I explained my concern over the itching on the thigh in conjunction with the burning urination. She advised that it was not a symptom of herpes. I have done alot of research online that has stated the direct opposite. What could the issue be?

I am worried sick to the point where I can't even sleep. Help

Welcome to our Forum.  From what you describe, there appears to be little reason to be concerned about herpes. The fact that there was blood on your penis after intercourse is not a risk factor ofr herpes, nor is it a risk factor for any other STD.  In addition, that your symptoms began a day after your encounter is not suggestive of any STD- the typical incubation time for any STD is 3-4 days (and at least 4 days for HSV) and there are NO STDs which cause symptoms beginning within a day of exposure- none!  (Itching of the thigh which is intermittent or lasts more than a few hours in the absence of lesions is likewise not a sign of an STD of any sort, including HSV)

A single sexual exposure to a new partner is typically not a terribly high risk event- most people do not have STDs and even when they do, most exposures to infected partners do not result in infection.  I suspect that the tests for STDs that have been performed will be negative.

Thus I agree with the doctor that you spoke with that blood in the urine and buring on urination are not typical symptoms of herpes.  Blood in the urine is a sign of kidney stones or structural abnormalities of the urinary tract and that the urine test performed at the hospital by the doctor failed to show even microscopic amounts of blood suggests that perhaps what you perceived as blood was something else- concentrated urine or something that you had ingested.

To summarize, you are at low risk for STD from the exposure that you describe and the symptoms you have expereinced are not likely to be due to an STD.  Further, whatever is going on has been evaluated by a doctor and was not felt to be emergent (I agree).  I would wait for your test results which I expect will be negative and try your best not to worry.  I hope that my comments will help you to accomplish this.  EWH
