Concerned and stupid

Hello, a few days ago I accidentally put hand sanitizer on my penis and of course it burned as you would expect. It's been a week later and I'm having minor irritation at the tip of my penis. Normally I can feel the initiation/burning when I'm walking, sitting, urinating and sometimes before I orgasm. The pain is very sporadic and I would say on a scale from 1-10 for pain it's 2. I do not always bother me when I’m performing the above task, also it seems to not be happening when I urinate anymore. I think I feel it more when I’m just sitting down or walking.

I'm really concerned because I received oral sex from a girl two weeks ago. I went to Urgent Care just to be on the safe side and they did and urine test and a visual examination and said everything was normal. The PA said she was not worried since I didn’t have any other symptoms but she would send the urine off for some additional testing.

My first question is could this be an STD or just a result of the hand sanitizer coming in contact with my penis? My second question is, while at urgent care they just performed a simple pee test while I was there. Would this check for everything that I should be concerned about or is there another test I should do?

If it is just because of the hand sanitizer, how long should it take to heal? Is there anything I could put on it?

Thanks for you help

No, if she has an STD, the test will pick it up.  EWH

I am less concerned about your continuing discomfort than the continued cloudy urine which could be indicative of a discharge.  At this juncture, I would advise repeat testing with an emphasis on the swab test looking for white blood cells (remember, this test is best if you have not voided in the hour before the test).  EWH

What you describe is quite compatible with chemical irritation from the hand sanitizer.  These products typically are alcohol based and have other chemicals as well.  Typically the irritation will get better gradually over the next few days.  try to not focus on it and it will resolve soon.

As for the evaluation you had at urgent care.  I am sure they looked at your urine for white blood cells, a good screening test for gonorrhea and NGU, the two most likely STDs you might have acquired from receipt of oral sex. In addition, they could (and should have) sent the urine for testing for gonorrhea and chlamydia.  Did they tell you to call back for test results or that they would contact you if your tests were positive?  If they did not, I suggest you call them and ask what tests were performed.  While your risk is low, they should have sent for the tests I mentioned.  If not tested, you may wish to be evaluated by a health care provider who can test you for gonorrhea.  As I mentioned , you risk is VERY low but it is better to be safe.

Hope this helps.  EWH

No, the urine test is not fro trich however, you were tested for white blood cells which more often than not would have been there if you had trich.  EWH

Hello Dr.

So far, the intial urine dip test came back negative and the urgent care called and said the urine culture also came back negative. The question I have is : Will a urine culture test tell you if you have Trech? All they did was a pee test, the did not swab anything.

Thanks

Hello Dr,

I just wanted to say thank you for all your help and guidance. After 1 day of taking the first antibiotic Azithromycin 1000mg tablets all my symptoms are gone. I will continue on with the Z-pac the other Dr. prescribed just to make my self feel better. I spoke with the pharmacist and they said it would not be an issue to take both. I learned the pharmacist is a great recourse when it comes to med info.

My girl friend and I went today, so she could get tested to make sure she does not have anything. They seemed not to be too concerned since she wasn’t no showing any signs, but I know that does not mean much.

The last question I have, if my gf’s tests come back negative does that mean she is 100% ok? Or could this mean that she hasn’t had the std long enough for it to show up in a test?

Thanks again for all your help and support.

Given that you cannot be seen, I would think that trichomonas infection is more likely than chlamydia bu tthe bet course of action is to take both medications.  that is a rasonable approach at this time.  eWH

Good Morning Dr,

After your advice I decided to put a call into my primary care doctor and also call the urgent care doctor. Currently I'm traveling for work so I'm unable to go to their offices in person. First I spoke with the urgent care Dr. and she didn't seem to concerned after I updated her on the new symptoms. She said the dip test was negative and she was still waiting for the culture test but she would prescribe me an antibiotic for Chlamydia just to be on the safe side.

A couple hours later my primary Dr. called and I updated him on all the issues I was having and he thought maybe it could be trichomoniasis which sometimes is hard to show up in test especially at an urgent care facility, therefore he called in a medication in for that as well.

As of this morning I noticed a few minutes after I urinate I have a few drops of clear liquid dripping out. I'm leaning toward the diagnosis of Chlamydia from everything I read online. Should I go ahead and take both or just start with one and see how that goes?

Thanks for your help

Hello Sir,

I'm currently taking a diet pill called phentermine, could this be the cause? If this was an STD what does is sound like?

Thanks,

Hello Dr,

One more question, then I will leave you alone.  In my previous posting I stated that it had only been a few days, It missed typed, as of today it has been 7 days since the hand sanitizer issue. I'm still having pain in the tip of my penix, How long should it last if it is related to this?

Recently I have noticed that my pee is pretty "cloudy" even though I have been drinking a lot of water. It also has a different smell

Could I have a Yeast infection?

I'm still waiting for a response from Urgent Care on the additional results.

Thanks for you help,

Wryan

Thank for your quick response Dr. Yes, they told me they would send it to the lab to try and "grow" it or somthing for further testing. They told me they would let me know what they found if anything.

Thanks
