Hello Doctors,
I attempted to post this as a followup to a previous conversation, but the site indicated the conversation was closed. As you know, about 4 1/2 years ago I had an outbreak of genital blisters. I went to a clinic, the doctor took a scrape and within the same day told me that I was positive for herpes. I have never had a reoccurrence and tested negative on followup herpes tests (unsure if they were IgG at the time). You mentioned that it could have been a false-positive Tzanck test. And I told you I would take an IgG. I finally took an IgG test, which came back negative. I accept that I do not have HSV. My questions are as follows?
1) What could have caused the initial breakout? I know you cannot diagnose over the internet, but I am curious as to what could be a non-herpes cause of genital blisters.
2) Could it be something that I should be concerned about transmitting?
3) Is there a chance that the IgG test is wrong?
4) I had initially been tested at a NYC clinic. Should I contact them and let them know that my diagnosis was incorrect? My only concern is that they might have reported this to the state or city and I rather have a "clean" record.
Thank you in advance for your response.
