Did I miss something.

Had unprotected sex, vaginal and oral, with friend 6 weeks ago.  10 - 14 days
later noticed small amount of redness around tip of penis, no discharge, no pain
maybe a small amount of urethral discomfort.

OK, don't chew me out on this part.  Panic set in, over-self-medicated with Cefixime 400mg,
Azithromycin 2g, Tinidazole 2g.  Followed with Doxycyline 100 mg twice daily for 7 days.

Redness cleared up, no lesions of any kind for 4 months.  Both redness and discomfort
returned yesterday 6 weeks out.

I know that taking those meds without diagnosis was wrong but it is what it is.

1) I think I covered most of the possibilities, could I have missed something that
was incubating and not yet clinical by medicating too soon.
2) Is it possible to have an ngu that wasn't touched by the meds.

I forgot to mention that during both the first episode and the current episode my urine was trace to +1 on a Chemstrip for leukocytes.

Trust me, I realize now how stupid it was.  I was just surprised at the return of the original symptoms after my ill-advised barrage.  Despite all that I have done wrong, none the less, I originally had mild inflammation at the tip of the penis with mild urethral discomfort, disappeared in the face of the antibiotics and has now returned 4 weeks after self medicating.

I have read other threads that have mentioned non-chlamydial ngu's as possible sources of infection and wanted to make re-assure myself that I did not have anything (non-viral) that I could pass on.

I will not self-medicate (again) no matter what the answer, I understand how foolish it was and what the possible consequences could have been..  I realize now that I was medicating guilt and anxiety,

Welcome to the Forum. You certainly did over react and have overtreated yourself for all bacterial STDs which you might have been (but probably were not) exposed to.  In doing so you put yourself at risk for drug side effects, allergic reactions an yeast infections.  You did not miss any bacterial STD, NGU would have been treated (twice).  You have no reason for concern, do not need further testing and no need for additonal therapy.

Please don't do this again, it really is not wise.  EWH
