Dear Doctor Handsfield
Thank you for your reassuring and informative responses
4 months after receiving oral sex I am still experiencing daily (intermittent throughout the day) medium (not debilitating but quite distracting) shooting pains/tingling in the tip of my penis and itching in my genitals and rectum, which is also not debilitating but quite noticeable. I have had two Herpes 1 & 2 tests ( First after 4 weeks, then @ 10 week I had HSV IGM and HSV 1/2 IGG Herpeselect), all of which were negative. In the month after exposure I had a single dose of Azythromycin , then 2 weeks of Cipro and 1 week of Docycycline. Multiple urine dip sticks showed no white blood cells. Your colleague has confirmed that there is probably nothing to worry about and the symptoms may be a result of prostatitus or a small anal fissure that irritates the prostate, but after 12 weeks the symptoms persist and are mostly more of a distraction because I don't want to spread anything if I have it.
1. Assuming your instinct is still to counsel that whatever I have is probably not a communicable STD, if there were any one or two guesses of something communicable, no matter how improbable, that could be tested or examined, what might it be.
2. In past bouts of Prostatitus, which I have had for over 20 years, whatever symptoms I had resolved within weeks, so I am not confident, and am avoiding sex with my wife which is creating a problem. Thanks
3. I know there is a very small possibility the antibiotics were not effective on gonorrhea, but if that were the case, how would the symptoms likely have progressed by now?
Many thanks
