irritated meatus -confused

Hi Dr. Hook/Dr. HHH -

First off want to say thank you for the service you provide as it has gotten me through a rough period in life. I will get down to it. back in early May had a brief unprotected encounter oral/vaginal sex with a friend who to my knowledge was std free and not promiscuous. started feeling some discomfort in my groin area probably 1-2 days after encounter went to local STD clinic a week and a half after the encounter to get checked out since I was concerned about herpes (note I did not have any lesions, just some tingling/mild burning in the groin area. Was diagnosed by a clinician as having a fungal infection and was tested for chlamydia which came out negative. fungal infection eventually cleared up after about 3-4 weeks. Thought I was in the clear but for peace of mind ended up getting tested at the 9-10 week mark for all stds including hsv2 which came out negative (wasnt tested for hsv-1 though for whatever reason wasn't included). Symptoms to date are below:
1) no discharge or burning on urination but something is off and there is a slight burn/twinge upon ejaculation....This has been pretty consistent for a while now.( I.e. months on end) my meatus is a bit redder than I remember it being but to be honest I have been much more aware of my genitals since the encounter.
2) to close do you have any idea what could be causing redness/irritation in my meatus, consistent slight pain but no discharge during ejaculation? Ngu? trich? Possible hSv-1? Uti? Note i have not had any overt sores/lesions on my penis nor did she have any visible sores/lesions at the time of the encounter

I'm kind of at a loss right now and hope this isn't permanent. I plan on seeing a urologist as I thought since my tests came back std free that this would pass which it has not. I am getting back together with my ex Girlfriend and obviously dont want to give her anything. Any insight would be greatly appreciated and I thank you in advance for your time.

1. Most unlikely.

2.  This does not suggest HSV in any way, lesions would be present .

Please let us know the urologist says.  EWH

Thanks Dr. Hook I appreciate the quick response . i just have a couple follow up questions if you would be so kind to indulge me and then will put this to rest until I see the urologist.

1) just to clarify I was not tested for ngu or trich...was tested for everything else (hsv2, chlamydia, gon, syp, hiv) at the 10 week mark all negative. Could ngu or trich cause symptoms like mine consistently for months?
2) would atypical hsv cause this type of consistent mild pain/irritation for months without obvious penile lesions or is that unlikely?

I do understand that anxiety can play a factor and if it makes a difference the encounter was unprotected for maybe 30 sec-a minute before i thought better of it and stopped, granted i guess it only takes one time...but I never felt this way before the encounter that I know for sure. Thank you very much for your time it's greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the Forum.  I'll be pleased to comment.  I anticipate that your tests will be negative and that when you are seen by the urologist that he/she will see no abnormalities either. Your initial symptoms began sooner than would be expected for an STD and the symptoms you have experienced since are non-specific.  The symptoms you describe are typical of what is often seen when persons start to look for symptoms- they tend to become aware of normal sensations which they would otherwise overlook.

My advice is to do your best not to worry, to believe your test results and if you have been regularly examining yourself, please stop - this could very well be the source of your urethral irritation.

I hope this assessment and advice is helpful.  EWH
