Welcome to the Forum. This was a low risk event. Few STDs are transmitted by receipt of oral sex. As it out, oral sex is an inefficient way to transmit STDs. Of the bacterial STDs only gonorrhea and nongonococcal urethritis (NGU) are transmitted through oral sex; chlamydia is not and without an obvious sore or lesion on your partner’s mouth, the chances of syphilis and herpes is likewise tiny. Likewise, there has never been a case of HIV documented to have been acquired through oral sex. If you had gotten gonorrhea or NGU you would have most likely developed symptoms of urethritis (penile infection) such as a penile discharge or burning on urination. Even if your partner had an STD (any STD and it is likely she did not), most exposures do not lead to infection.
On the other hand, application of hand sanitizer is not a good idea. It is alcohol bases and tends to irritate and dry the skin. I suspect that is what your symptoms were due to. Please do not apply hand sanitizer to the sensitive skin of your genitals again.
As for your specific questions:
1. What was the risk of my exposure?
See above- low.
2. In the panic, I also started taking moxifloxacin 400mg. Would this do anything or cause a test error?
Moxifloxacin could be curative for NGU and possibly gonorrhea if you had it. I doubt that you need it.
3. How long till the sanitizer issue take to settle?
This just depends on how long it takes you to heal, Most people heal in a few days but I've seen some folks who take several weeks for the irritation to completely resolve.
4. What else should I keep an eye our for? '
I would not worry further.
5. What else should I be concerned about with std pertaining to any needed follow up testing, etc.? Trimming/etc. increase my exposure.
I would not worry, as I said above.
6. What information have I failed to provide you to aid you in your assistance in this matter and what, if any, questions have I left out.
You're fine.
I hope these comments are helpful. EWH
Thank you, that does help Dr. Hook.
Your anquish and continued concern is really not approp[raite following the exposure that you have mentioned. As I've already said, there really is almost no meaningful risk from the exposure you have described. The symptoms of typical STDs would have been expected to have developed by now if they were going to. Similarly testing for STDs at this time will provide results that you should believe. EWH
Dr. Hook
I has now been 33 days since the incident. Recently I have recovered from a cold that lasted about a week. I believe I am symptom free other than there is an occasional dull pain in my lower right abdomen. Also my lower back is a bit dull. Intellectually, I can try to ward off those issues given my work requires occasionally heavy lifting and yesterday I simply stayed in bed all day, depressed, which is certainly not like me. It was a day I finally had to do nothing and I didn't. I do still suffer from great anxiety and have lost 12lbs. The stress has hurt my appetite, but I am now eating wether hungry on not.
I do have fordyce spots on my upper lip that have remained unchanged for a few days. Although recently noticed may be they have been there for a long time. They are not visible with a closed mouth.
Am I outside of the time when first exposure symptoms appear?
I will probably get tested for peace of mind, but when can that be done?
You have been extremely helpful and I truly appreciate you and your time.
Where do I sit on the probability scale here?
Thank you again Dr.
I answered the question. If you took the moxifloxacin for five or more days it would cure most STDs such as chlamydia, NGU and gonorrhea. EWH
Thank you Dr. Hook.
Your response has provided much relief.
I missed what affect Moxifloxacin may have on test results. Started taking the 400mg the morning after the incident. The second day after the incident was when the urine samples were taken.
Thank you so much for all you do.
