Follow Up from HIV Help

I had posted this question under a thread I had on the HIV forum and it was removed. Here goes again.

3 weeks ago had a one night stand. No names, phone numbers or history.

For my part, on her, there was a lot of fingering, some oral (cunnilingus) to add moisture to the event, and everything else was protected.

About a week after the incident, I developed a "canker sore" in the back of my mouth on the jaw. At the time it was diagnosed as a result of drainage from a slight ear infection. It went away in 7 days.

Now for the oral portion, I only used the first third of the tounge, outside of my mouth and never penetrated, only licked the outside of her.

Could this be syphilis?
Is one week enough time for a sore to develop?
Do the sores only develop at the expected site of infection (i.e. on the tip of my tounge or maybe the lips)?
I was given Augmentin and then Levaquin to get rid of the ear infection, would either of these taken care of syphilis?

Does any of this change the HIV question (i.e HIV from cunnilingus if syphilis is involved)?

Thanks

I was just researching the Tetracycline he has me on.

It looks like it is a cure to Syphilis. As with the Augmentin, would a Syphilis outbreak occur when on the antibitoic?

Doc,

I have had a small (0.05mm) diameter red spot appear on my lower lip 3 weeks after the activity mentioned above.

It does not hurt, it is not raised, just a red spot with slightly different texture then my lip.

Does this sound like anything related to Syphilis or Herpes?

As an aside, two days before it appeared, my GP put me on a 2 week course of Tetracycline (500mg qid) to try and get rid of an on going sore throat (we had already tried 5 days of augmentin, 5 days of levaquin).

Thanks for relooking at this one.

You are correct, the sore would not have developed.

You are not at risk for other STDs. EWH

Thank you for the reply.

I wouldn't have called the sore painful but I knew it was there. As an aside, I still have a sore throat and a slight ear tingle.

I was taking the Augmentin for 5 days before the sore developed.

If Augmentin is active against syphilis then would you state that the sore would not have developed as a result of syphilis?

Finally, if HIV is not transmitted this way and syphilis (with lack of sore on tip of tounge or finger) is ruled out, there are no other real danagers (given that I had several courses of antibiotics that are active against other things).

Thanks for your time

Syphilis is unlikely.  No need to worry.  Let's answer your questions:

1.  Sores can develop in one week.  If it was painful as most canker sores are, that would be unusual for syphilis.

2.  Syphilitic sores develop at the site of contact. In your case, it would be your tongue or finger.

3.  Augmentin could abort he development of syphilis, particularly if you took it for 7 days or more, levaquin would not.

4.  No, no change to HIV question--this is unlikel to be syphilis. It is a rare disease.  If you are concerned get a syphilis test and get it behind you,

Hope this helps.  EWH
