Very concerned....

Hi there....

I was on a trip to the US and had protected anal sex with a female prostitute. She also performed unprotected oral sex on me and we also kissed, with tongues. I'm aware that many FAQs have been answered, but I'm just so concerned and am seeking some assurance. I showered thoroughly almost immediately after sex . I also visited my doctor upon my return (approx 52 hours after event). He examined me and said he could not see any signs of any infection etc. He tried to reassure me, saying that the chances are that I am safe. However, I have a long-term girlfriend, and apart from feeling very ashamed, am also very worried about passing anything on to her. My doctor prescribed me 1g of Zithromax which I took. I have no history of STDs. Now almost 100 hours after the event, I have no apparent signs of infection, but still very worried. I presume also that any hepatitis infection would not show symptoms for some time, or am I incorrect?

No online doc can second guess the direct examination by a health care provider.  Adding up the probabilities of condom-protected anal sex, the low risk of oral sex, the negative examination by a provider, and treatment with azithromycin, there simply is no realistic chance you have an STD.  There was zero risk of hepatitis.  Follow your provider's advice; I cannot help further.

Consider yourself reassured and move on.  Good luck--
