Welcome back to our Forum. I see that you are still worrying about HSV.
There are risks to any sexual encounter with a new partner. Herpes, as well as other STDs are among them. At the same time the following facts are absolutely true:
- Most people, including CSWs do not have STDs (including HIV).
- Most unprotected exposures to infected partners do not lead to infection.
- Condoms are excellent for further reduction of risk of STD acquisition.
- The risk of STD acquisition from unprotected receipt of oral sex is lower than the risk from vaginal sex.
Bottom line, your risk is low. On the other hand, you may be a candidate for STD "screening" (testing in the absence of symptoms). As a matter of personal protection, we recommend annual testing for anyone who has had either a new or two or more sex partners in the past year (we consider this to be health maintenance- we also recommend you get your blood pressure and cholesterol checked regularly). Tests for the most common STDs, gonorrhea and NGU (there is virtually no risk for chlamydia- your vaginal exposure was condom protected and chlamydia is not spread through oral sex) will give you reliable results at any time more than 3 2-3 days after your exposure. As far as HSV is concerned, I would not worry about it unless you develop lesions, which is unlikely. If you had acquired HSV you would develop penile lesions at the site of contact 4-`14 days after your exposure.
Hope this is helpful to you. EWH
