Help with std information

hello Doctor

I am a 28 yr old male. In the past three days i have had a irritating feeling like i have to pee all the time.
when i do urinate it is a steady stream with no  no discharge, it does not sting and my penal tip / urethra opening is not in any pain and does not appear to be aggrevated or swollen. Also i do not have sore muscles, kidneys etc. On Monday my girlfriend and i had unprotected sex. in the past month her and i both tested possitive for chlamydia and gonnorhea but they her test and so she took a urinalysis again. botched the test so we both took zithromax 1g and 2 weeks later took suprax 400mg. we carried on having protected sex until this week. This morning i went to the clinic where the doctor did a dip test on my urine and discovered traces of blood.

1. Is it possible that i could have caught chlamydia / gonnorhea again - conseridering she could still be infected.
2. can blood in your urine be caused by any other uti related source.

thank you for your time.

What's with the impatient new question (which I deleted)?  Only a limited number of new threads can be accommodated -- so your excess one has may have blocked someone whose new question can't be posted until tomorrow.  (Deleting it doesn't re-set the number of questions accepted each day.) The moderators are not on standby 24/7 to respond to questions.  MedHelp standard is for replies within 24 hours, and Dr. Hook and I almost always respond within that time.

OK, thanks for the additional information.  It helps.

First, my guess is your recent positive chlamydia/gonorrhea test was false. The test detects the germs' DNA, which persists for a couple of weeks after the bacteria are killed.  You and your partner both had adequate treatment.  Although your initial treatment wasn't ideal for gonorrhea (as we discussed in your earlier thread), it was pretty good; and you took cefixime for gonorrhea before you and your partner had unprotected sex.

In addition, your current symptoms are not alarming.  You seem to understand it's a good sign that you're not having any more urinary frequency, stinging pain on urination, discharge, or stickiness of the opening in the morning.  And your partner's symptoms have cleared up nicely.  If your doctor believes you should have another round of antibiotics, you should follow that advice.  In that case, it would be best for your partner also to be re-treated.

However, from all you say I doubt this is necessary.  Instead, I recommend sitting tight, and that after another 2-3 weeks -- i.e. at least a full month after you and your partner completed your original treatment -- you both be retested for gonorrhea and chlamydia.  In the meantime, it would be best to avoid sex entirely, so that if your minor symptoms persist or new ones appear, you will know for sure it isn't from a new infection (which might occur because of a lapse in condom use).  However, if you and your partner just can't get by without sex the next couple of weeks, for sure use condoms and do so very carefully.

In the meantime, I wouldn't be worried about your continued minor symptoms, which I expect will clear up.  And a trace of blood on a routine urinalysis also doesn't mean much in the absence of more severe symptoms, appearance of overt blood, etc.  Your doctor might want to do a follow-up urinalysis to make sure the blood doesn't persist.  But there's probably no hurry; that can be done when you have the final gonorrhea and chlamydia tests in a few weeks.

I hope this has helped.  Best wishes.

thank you doctor i hope this info will help.

ok the symptoms i was having before was a sting after urination and a slight burn and itching periodically through out the day. I also developed swollen sore testicles. i saw my docto, i took blood tests for hiv syphylis chlamydia and gonnorheaand the tests for hiv and syphlis were negative. the tests for chlamydia and gonnorhea were botched, ruined for what reason i dont know.
By this time my girlfriend had recieved her results back from her doctor that she had tested  possitive for chlamydia and gonnorhea she was prescribed zithromax 1g dosage and suprax 400mg .  but she told me she tested possitive for chlamydia some how i misunderstood that she had tested for both- so when i went to see my doctor to do a second urinalysis - i told him chlamydia and not gonnorhea he prescribed me with zithromax 1g until i figured out through conversation with her that she had the 2 stds and recieved dosage for both unlike my self so i returned to my doctor and got suprax 400mg  for gonnorhea. when i got my latest urinalysis back it was possitive for both.
during this whole time we practiced sex with a condom - until 2 weeks later which is now and i have my current symptoms.

After my girlfriend had taken zithro 1g and suprax 400mg she had cramping and consistent  farting  for two weeks but it did not hurt her  to have sex.
her symptoms before were what appeared to be a yeast infection some discharge with odor and blood spotting with cramps but none of which she complained about. presently she has none of these symptoms.

so we had protected sex with a condom 2 weeks after we had both being treated with meds.
is it possible that she still has it and had developed pid and  i have contracted it again since my results had come back clear she hasnt got her results back but seems to have no symptoms.

you said blood in urine is not a sign of std is that correct - the doctor discovered blood when he did a dip test this morning on my urine. the current symptoms i am having are: a slight itch irratation in side my urethra not my penile tip- enough to notice no signs of swollen testicles so far. does not sting when i urinate my penile tip is slightly sticking together but their is no discharge and my penis is not stuck together in morning. i am no longer having the feeling of constantly wanting to go pee. my pee is yellow and clear but i would not say noticecibly cloudy.

i hope this helps

Welcome back to the forum.  I'll try to help.

It is important that you provide all relevant information when you ask questions on MedHelp's professionally moderated forums.  The version of this question on the urology forum doesn't mention your sexual exposures, your positive tests for gonorrhea and chlamydia, and their treatment, and a couple weeks ago you asked only whether azithromycin (1 gram) would cure gonorrhea.  And the question here doesn't completely describe your symptoms as on the urology forum -- where you expressed your own suspicion that anxiety may be playing a role.  If you want accurate medical advice, either on a forum or when seeing a doctor in person, you must give complete information.  Otherwise you are tying the hands of the person trying to help you!

Synthesizing the quesitons on various forums, it appears you and your partner tested positive for gonorrhea and chlamydia a few weeks ago and you both were treated.  Please confirm that you both took both drugs, azithromycin (Zithromax) and cefixime (Suprax); and that you took them at about the same time, before you had sex with each other.

Were you and/or your partner having symptoms before you had the gonorrhea and chlamydia tests? What symptoms were they? Did those symptoms clear up after treatment?  How long before your current symptoms started?

Finally, say more about the doctor visit yesterday or today.  What was found aside from a trace of blood in the urinalysis?  What did the doctor say about the cause of your symptoms?  Is another gonorrhea/chlamydia test being done?

1) If your partner wasn't treated, or if your treatments were more than a week apart, then you could have been reinfected with chlamydia or gonorrhea.  If you were both treated at about the same time, this is unlikely.

2) Traces of blood are not usually a sign of STD -- but this depends on missing details about symptoms, other tests, etc.

Probably I will have more complete advice when you provide all the missing information.

Regards--  HHH, MD
