Sore penis and purple spot

Dear Doctors,

2 nights ago (~36 hours) I had protected vaginal sex and unprotected oral sex (performed on me a few times) along with mutual masturbation.

Reading other posts has been helpful, but a tailored reply would probably better inform me.

Since the episode, the top of my penis has been pretty sore. Of more concern to me, there is a purple abrasion about midway down my penis, no elevated, but about the size of a large pimple. From what I understand, this is too early to be related to an STD/STI due to the incubation period, so I was wondering if I am correct to perhaps putting this down to friction from sex or the suction/physical nature of the oral sex?

I should perhaps also note that the condom I used was pretty low quality, )it even came in novelty packaging !) I have checked that it did not break but it had very poor lubrication, in fact it was very dry, and was difficult to put on. But, I suppose, givent hat it did not break, it did the trick?

Thanks for you help

These symptoms are not due to any infection.  However, as you ask the question, my reply is yes, the symptoms probably are "sexually related" -- because I believe they reflect your emotional state in response to a sexual choice you regret.  But no STD for sure.

That's all for this thread.  Please accept the reassurance and move on; or get professionally examined if you still remain concerned.  But I will have no furhter comments or advice.

Hi Doctor, sorry to resurrect an older thread.

This will be my final question. It's almost been a week and for the past day and a half I've had a cramping/tingling pain about 2 inches below my naval and just above the genital region. Do you think this is a sign of anything sexually related?

Yes, HIV is out of the question.  It isn't transmitted by oral sex (or so rarely the chance can be ignored) nor by hand-genital contact.  That the mark is over your dorsal penile vein has no bearing on the risk.

Your supposed worst case scenario is itself wildly unrealistic.  Your symptoms are not due to any infection from the sexual exposure described.

Thanks for your reply Dr. Handsfield.

Just another question if I may.

Considering the vaginal sex was protected, I'm guessing an infection like HIV is out of the question, despite about four episodes of oral sex and mutual masturbation? The bruise/perhaps even teeth mark on my penis was on top of a vein if that makes any difference.

In essence what I'm asking is the best case scenario I'll have nothing from this episode or the worst case scenario is I'll get a common STI?

Thanks again

Welcome to the forum.  I'll try to help.

From your description, I agree that minor trauma to your penis is the most likely explanation for your symptoms.  Not only is the timing more consistent with trauma rather than infection, but no STD causes the sorts of symptoms you describe.

You are also correct in your assumption about STD protection from the condom.  If a condom does not overtly and obviously break wide open, then protection is complete.  The notion of infection through microscopic pores or breaks is an urban myth; it probably never happens.

I hope this helps.  Best wishes---  HHH, MD
