Fellatio and testing

Good morning doctors,

First I wanna say I'm aware of medhelps policy of only 2 questions in 6 months, that being said, I hope my recent question does not keep me from asking a different one. if so, I apologize before hand.

My question is; I received unprotected oral sex in October last year. I never experienced any syntomps (discharge, puss, burning etc) I read all other posts where the community and the doctors say that if one does not experience syntomps then testing is just for peace of mind.

I called the clinic yesterday to ask their opinion and they suggested not only that I could be having asyntomatic gonorreah or clamidya but also that my wife could have it and being asyntomatic as well. Needless to say I panicked, rushed to the clinic and got my urine taken, I would have to wait 2 weeks for the results.

I wanted to know your opinion about how likely is it to get a positive test at this point? Even a counselor suggested I had prepare something to say to my wife, I'm under a lot of stress and I couldn't sleep, I know this is not a hand holding anxiety service, but I do read that doctor Hands field could be the father of asyntomatic gonorrrah and wanted to ask you, is there another way to know if I have gonorreah to mellow out while I wait?

Thank you so much.

I'm so sorry for being such a pain, I did not think about the scenario where if she was infected I would be re-infected. I really don't want to be in the look for syntomps on myself. Enough time has passed so is it safe to say we are both free of STDs and that I can forget about all of this? ( this will close my thread, no more questions after this) thanks for your help doctor. Take care!

You are not being patient. We do not answer questions 24/7.  the MedHelp standard is to answer questions within 24 hours- we do far better than this. BE PATIENT! Particularly with anxiety-driven questions of the sort you are now asking.

1) if she did a urine test for regular UTIs would gonorrhea show up or not necessarily because they are not looking for it?
It would not show up BUT, for the scenario you describe, you would have to be re-infected as well and as I have already told you, would most likely be symptomatic.

2) small dosis of antibiotics (I think amoxacilyn) improved dramatically in one day the syntomps (burning when urinating) would that cure possible gonorrhea too?
No.

3)before I forget this, Do you recommend my wife to get checked by a gynecologist as we are trying to have a baby to make sure any potential STD undetected is not causing serious concequences?
It would be recommended that she get checked if and when she becasme pregnant.  No before.

Dear doctor Hook,

I just got my results back, negative as you anticipated it for gonorrhea and I knew Chlamydia was not an issue. I've read that gonorrhea clears itself in men in a matter of weeks, my last concern would be. Could you kindly give me some insight on the following issue. My wife gets UTIS all the time about 5-6 times a year, she gets better intermediately after taking antibiotics and being tested for urine. Last time she got one was coinciedencially a week after my exposure, questions are.

1) if she did a urine test for regular UTIs would gonorrhea show up or not necessarily because they are not looking for it?
2) small dosis of antibiotics (I think amoxacilyn) improved dramatically in one day the syntomps (burning when urinating) would that cure possible gonorrhea too?
3)before I forget this, Do you recommend my wife to get checked by a gynecologist as we are trying to have a baby to make sure any potential STD undetected is not causing serious concequences?

I apologize beforehand if im too paranoid/precaucious/anxious and my questions are not necessary,

Thanks.

You seem to have trouble moving on. Dr. Handsfield had to end your interaction and this current interaction cannot continue in a prolonged state either.  You need to relax and move forward.,  Continuuing to answer your questions appears to just feed your anxieties. This will be my final repsonse. After that, no more questions, or replies until you have test results- at that time you may ask one or two follow-ups, if needbe.

There is little chance that you or your wife is infected. If she has health problems, she, not you should be having them checked.  If your test is negative, and I am confident that it will be, you need to forget these concerns and move forward.  End of discussion. EWH

She also mentioned she had some thick discharge just one day before her period a week ago...nothing else sounds isolated to me, what do you think? Finally...if my test comes back negative can I forget about this and move on with my life or would she need to test in ur opinion to be extra sure?

Sorry doctor but now I'm confused....you said that it is really hard for my test to be positive...is it because...if it is not which probably will be...would that make my wife safe or not quite?

At this point, I would wait for test results before you decide what you tell your wife. It as been 4 months, a few more days is not going to make a difference and, as wel agree, there is little risk for infection. Then, you can decide if you are going to tell her or not.  Telling her at this time is just going to create "what if" questions for her.  Unless there is something else going on, there is no reason for you to burden her at this time.  EWH

Thank you doctor,

It is right that the people in the clinic may have inflated my anxieties, for number 5) would still then be possible for my infection to cleared up therefore showing negative but at the time I was infected I infected my wife? I may be oveeracting or you think I have to tell her the truth bases in medical standpoint?

Would you say chance of gono 1:1000 chance of getting it 1:100 and chance of asyntomatic 1x.95 ending on 1,000,000 chance of infection meaning I should go back to bed and get some sleep?

Back in the day when I asked her she told me she gets tested very often and uses condoms for vaginal but I don't know how common or if she gets swabbed at all...this Monday is a holiday here meaning I could not get my results till a week after hopefully sooner :(

While the people you spoke to at the clinic are correct in theory, just as , in theory, you could be struck by lightning while reading this note.  The chance that you have asymptomatic gonorrhea from the exposure you describe and that you have now infected your regular partner are about the same.

1.  Most CSWs do not have STIs, including at their throats.
2.  Most single exposures to infected partners do not lead to infection.
3.  Gonorrhea is becoming a less and less common infection.
4.  When men get gonorrhea over 95% develop symptoms.
5.  When men get asymptomatic gonorrhea, some while spontaneously clear the infection without treatment.  (precisely how many is unknown, the number increases over time)

Taken together, I would be willing t be a large amount of money that your tests will be negative.  I urge you not to worry. (Further, there is NO reason for a gonorrhea test on urine to take 2 weeks to get back- the test takes a few hours to perform and results should be back in 4-5 working days).

I hope these comments will be helpful.  EWH
