The blood for WB can be drawn at any time.  The lab may do the test only on schedule, but there is no need to wait until then; your blood can be stored in the lab until the testing day.

The "amplified tests:  Those are negative urine test results for both gonorrhea and chlamydia.

False positive means what the words say:  a positive result in someone without the infection.  The result is positive but false.

Your hepatitis results have no effect on your HSV-2 test result.  My 50:50 guess is unchanged.

HSV-2 would not be detected in a skin biopsy.

As I said above, I will be happy to comment again if and when you report your HSV Western blot test.  Until then I will have no more comments or advice.

Last question Dr. Hansfield. I appreciate your patience. If they took a piece of my skin for the biopsy for the genital warts. (Test came back positive for the lowest strain of  genital warts) Would hsv 2 show up in this piece of skin from my penis?

They told me it's done the last Wednesday(12/28/11) of every month. They then told me that were going to "push" the date up for me 12/19/11 because I'm really concerned.

This was also included in the results.
Amplified CT-urine in range (negative)  Ref range (negative)

Amplified GC-urine In Range (negative)  Ref Range (Negative)
what does this mean?

what does false positive mean?

Rapid HSV 2 positive (negative) what does that mean?

Does me being negative for hepatitis play a role in whether or not I test negative for hsv 2?

With all the information in this thread (no symptoms, 1.66 range, history of of hsv1, do you still believe I'm still 50/50 for hsv 2?

False positive HSV-2 test results are more common in people with HSV-1.  That history makes it even more likely that a confirmatory WB will be negative for HSV-2.  Why are you waiting another 2 weeks to be tested?  I see no point in delaying -- but whenever you do it, I'll be interested to know the result.

Nope, no symptoms of herpes. No crusting over of the bumps on my penis, no sores on my penis, no tingling, nothing of that nature.

I know I have hsv 1. I have had sores on my lips. These sores have showed up on my lips about two to three times since I was  17. I am know 33.  If I had cold sores on my lips why is hsv ab type 1 test coming up as positive (negative)?

Do you think me being hsv 1 positive played a factor in the rapid anti-body test for for hsv 2 and the hsv 2 IGG herpeselect test (1.66) conducted by Quest?

I am now 33.  I have many female sexual partners. I wore condoms the vast majority of the times.

My Western Blot test is scheduled for December 19, 2011. If these test come back negative I will be finding me a wife and settling down. This is to much stress for me.

You say your HSV-1 result was "positive negative".  Please clarify.

Your symptoms do not suggest herpes.

All things considered, most likely you don't have HSV-2.  Based on your symptoms and exposure history, you probably shouldn't have been tested for HSV in the first place.  But now that you have the equivocal result, the only way to sort it out is to have a confirmatory test.  I suggest the Western blot, which can also be done through Quest.  Let me know that result if and when you get tested.

HSV 2 IGG Herpeselect AB 1.66 H. It was conducted by quest diagnostics.

The other part of the test was a Rapid hsv2 antibody positive (negative) test.

Welcome to the STD forum.

Here is a thread that answers most of the questions you may have about this.  Please read it:

http://www.medhelp.org/posts/STDs/IGG-Test-Result-Confusion/show/593272

New information since that discussion is that uncertain results (over 1.1 and officially positive, but below the definitely positive number of 3.5) are not very common, probably about 5% of all HSV-2 blood test results.  With a value of 1.66, there is probably around a 50% chance you really have HSV-2.

Tell me more about the test result.  Exactly what test was done?  (Your comment about the "bars" suggests it was an immunoblot test? HerpeSelect? Was it done at one of the national labs, like Quest?)  If the test included HSV-1, what was that result?  Have you had symptoms to suggest genital herpes?  If so, tell me about them.  Any sexual contact with partners known to have HSV-2?  But if the situation remains unclear, a confirmatory test -- BiokitUSA or Western blot -- may be necessary.  But let me know the missing information and we'll take it from there.

Regards--  HHH, MD

I took a IGG test. One of the bars was dark, the other bar was light/medium. They then sent my blood to a lab and the results of the lab test was 1.66
