INFECTION CHANCES

Thanks in advance DOC,
About a month and a half ago i met a girl, we performed mutual stimulation on each other and she also performed oral sex on me briefly. This was at about 2 am, the next morning at about 8 am, i awoke with a sore right testicle (only the right). I also had a slight feeling of the need to urinate. I saw a doctor about 2 weeks later, he did a manual exam and said there was nothing abnormal ( no swelling suggestion a chlamydia infection) but he decided to prescribe Zithromax and Cefixime (i think, cant read handwriting)just in case as I was leaving town for 2 weeks.
The pain is still there, however, it is not so much of a pain like at first, now it is a dull feeling and somewhat tingling which comes and goes. The doctor thinks that i have just injured myself due to the vigorous nature of the "handjob". Seeing as you have vast experience in this area, i decided to ask. What are my chances for infection (never had and painful urination or discharge, just the sore testicle)? Is it possible that the prescription did not kill the bacteria (if there was an infection). I have seen another doctor since then who said the antibiotics were not necessary and that it will take some time for the symptoms to go away (he used a sprained ankle analogy). So, i put my worried mind in your hands for the final verdict. I have had a swab and urine test done and am waiting for the results. I am abstaining from having intercourse with my girlfriend for fear of transmitting anything. Haven

I can't say what is causing your symptoms, except I am 100% confident it isn't an STD.  The best bet is anxiety and nothing more.  Otherwise, it certainly has nothing to do with the sexual exposure you describe. Brief oral sex is close to zero risk.

You aren't too old at all. I work part time at a med school, and there are a number of students in their 40s. Really, there are a lot of pluses to being older; older students are generally more dedicated, settled, willing to work hard, and have much more life experience to offer. However, older students also can have more difficulty keeping long hours, and have "lives" and obligations that can sometimes interfere. Give it a lot of thought. Med school is a very long, very arduous, and very expensive process, but if you're serious, you shouldn't wait too long. You don't want to be paying your student loans with your social security check ;-)

Hey monkey.  I was dumb when I started reading this forum.  Dumb to cheat on my wife and have to spend time worrying about STD's.

I am not dumb about STD's anymore.  Fascinating field.  In hind site if I had my life to do over again I would be a Dr. HHH disciple and be an M.D. in the field.  I can't believe the mis-information out there. People need real facts and real help.  Too bad there are so few places to get it.  I am amazed at how little urologists know about STD.  Even the urology forum on this website needs some help!!

Thanks Dr. HHH.  Is it too late for a 41 year old to become an M.D.?

You didn't even have sex so there is no chance of an STD.  No STD can cause a symptom in less and a couple of days.

Move on, you are 100% OK.

The evidence against an STD is overwhelming.  1) No STD is ever transmitted by hand to genital contact (none, period, ever).  2) No STD can start to cause symptoms only 6 hours after exposure.  3) A health professional found nothing wrong.  4) You have been treated with antibiotics that would have cleared up any possible STD. 5) And then a second doc confirmed nothing was wrong and said you didn't need treatment.  I guess I don't understand why that reassurance wasn't sufficient.  I don't know what other test result are in the works, but you didn't need that testing.  I agree 100% with the second doc:  you never were infected, your symptoms don't mean anything serious, and they will fade with time. Just relax and stop worrying; you don't have anything.  But of course if your symptoms persist, continue to follow up with your doc (preferably the second one).

Good luck--  HHH, MD
