Worried about STD's

I received unprotected Oral Sex from a male friend the end of August 2004.  Since then I have been terrified that I have caught something from this, it was a very brief encounter, I was maybe in his mouth 40 seconds maybe less.  I ejaculated but not in his mouth.  It sometimes feels like it burns when I pee,  but I am not sure.  Sometimes It feels like I have something leak out of my penis, after I urinate, but I have always let out a few drops of urine after I pee, but I am worried this is an STD.  I went to a clinic and had a urethral swab done about a month after the encounter.  They came back negative for gon, and clamydia, but I urinated seconds before I had the swab,  would that alter results of this test?  I am just all in all very nervous that I have caught something and I am afraid of passing it on to my wife.  Would I have shown clear symptoms of an STD by now?

Thank you for your help

Your risk from that encounter is extremely low and your symptoms don't suggest STD.  The swab tests are accurate even immediately after urinating.  And yes, if despite all this you actually had been infected, you probably would have had symptoms by now.  You can resume sex with your wife without fear.  (Also see the thread "Syphilis" immediately beforet this one.)

Good luck--  HHH, MD
