Masturbation risk with Jock Itch Rash?

Good morning,

Four days ago I stupidly visited an erotic massage parlor where I received a handjob from one of the female workers. Under normal circumstances, I realize this is a no-risk scenario but I am extremely fearful because I had a fairly severe jock itch rash on each side of my groin (prior to the massage) and the woman massaged thoroughly around my groin/testicles with her bare hands. My questions are: 1).does the presence of my rash increase my HIV/STD risk from this encounter as any open cuts on her hand could have easily come into contact with my broken skin around the rash? 2.) Is a normal jock itch rash considered an "open wound" in which viruses such as HIV could enter the bloodstream or is it more of a topical rash that doesn't expose the bloodstream to infection?

I realize that my anxiety is probably irrational but I am extremely guilt ridden and fearful that I could pass something along to my fiancee so any insight would be much appreciated. Thank you!

As I said above, this was an essentially no risk encounter.  EWH

Thank you for the timely response Doctor- very helpful. So just for my peace of mind, would you still assess this as an essentially no-risk encounter that doesn't warrant testing and I can feel comfortable resuming normal relations with my fiancee without fear?

Welcome back to the Forum.  I'll go directly to your questions:

1.   No, the presence of a rash such as the one you describe, even if severe, does not put you at increased risk for HIV or make you otherwise susceptible to STDs.  Moisture and wetness generated in the course of sexual activity can certainly make such rashes irritated.  I suggest you make all possible efforts to take care of it.  I realize you are probably medicated for this problem but just in case it has not been pointed out in the past, keep the involved area clean and dry promotes healing almost as much as the medications and the two together provide optimal results.

2.  No.  A rash of this sort is not an "open wound" which would increase risk for HIV nor would it transform safe sex into an encounter with increased risk.

I hope these comments are helpful and hope your rash clears up quickly.  EWH
