Molloscum contagasium

Hello doctors. I have an irritation I am very concerned about and wanted to post here. Two things: I am a serious hypochondriac and I'm currently away from my doctor (out of country) for 2 weeks and having something of an anxiety issue with this...so the most help I can get, the better. Please let me know if it's possible to post an image of what I am talking about...

I for for the past 1 1/2 weeks or so a serious redness/irritation on the left side of my groin (inner thigh area) and also my testicles--the skin was red, inflamed, itchy, etc. The doctor diagnosed folliculitus and/or general irritation and prescribed some medications, including an oral antibiotic and an antifungal.
Now I noticed on the area of my testicles that is itchy and had been painful a patch of tiny, circular white dots. They are each maybe 1mm, maybe 2mm in diameter. When squeezed they emit a small amount of white matter. I am thinking they are most likely clogged or irritated hair follicles due to the presence of a large amount of hair and follicles in this particular area (though I cannot see hair coming out of the actual small white dots.)

I am seriously paranoid that this is somehow molloscum contagasium, due to the latter's appearance of being a circle with a small dot in the center. What I have also has a small 'dot' in the center...when squeezed, what's left looks like a small white circle with an empty hole or dot in the middle.

So main question: Would molloscum generally hurt or itch in this manner? Does the color (definitely white) point toward something else?

Perhaps most importantly, would a clogged follicle or pore also have that similar 'dot in the center of a circle' appearance? If so I am leaning toward thinking that's what this is...

If it's at ALL possible to take a look at the image it would set my mind at ease:

THANK YOU.

Yeasts are fungi, but not all fungi are yeasts.  I carefully referred to "fungal skin  infection", not yeast.  Whatever you have isnt likely a yeast infection, if it's fungal at all.  Anyway, neither yeast nor other fungal infections are  sexually acquired; the exceptions are very rare.

The large majority of geital area rashes are not due to any STD and undoubtedly your is not.  Work to realize and accept that fact.

That will definitely end this thread.  Take care.

Thank you, & thanks for your understanding and clarity. Only question--isn't a female yeast infection a fungal infection? And I was under the impression that this could be passed to a partner, and vice versa..?

That's supposed to read "multiple usernames and duplicate accounts".

Fungal infections of the skin are not sexually transmitted, And your problem has nothing to do with your past or current sexual activity, and reflects no risk for your partners..  This information does not change my opinion or advice.  Therefore, this information does not change my opinion or advice. (This has nothing to do with your sign in problems or multiple

That will be all for this thread. I can't help further.

My 'mollquestion' account was deleted for breach of rules, but I had been unable to sign into this account at first due to password error. I understand the rules, but if you could please let this follow-up stand, and then feel free to disable this strand, it would be much appreciated for my overall peace of mind.

Doctor Handsfield: So just wanted to clarify then, fungal infection could present as patches of white dots that can be squeezed and emit white material? And can appear as small circles with a central node or dot, or (likely after being squeezed) as a white ring with a central dot? I must admit what I have does not really resemble the molluscum pictures online, they're more like small donut shaped buttons with a central dot. If you can confirm this I would be grateful. Also please note: My doc did not see the white dots on my testicles, he examined me last week, when the area was just red/itchy on testicles and also my groin area. But considering that the affected area on my testicles is right where it meets the fold of my groin that was previously affected, I'm assuming it's the same cause.

Secondly, and most importantly--if this is a fungal infection I just had a few questions about transmission. I am meeting up with a girlfriend whom I have not seen in 6 months; we'll be together for 1 week, then apart for another 4 months. Obviously I'd rather not have this get in the way of intimacy. Would a male fungal infection of this sort be easy for her to catch? Would it translate as a female yeast infection that, if she got it, she would treat with oral antibiotics or Monostat-7? Could she catch it via giving oral sex, and how would THAT be treated?

Again, please let this ONE follow-up stand, I was not breaching forum rules I was simply having trouble logging in to the other account. Thank you.

I saw all these comments before my reply above and took them into account.

Welcome to the forum.

With apology, we don't look at posted photos on this forum.  In our view, that comes too close to practicing medicine from a distance; we are not in a position to do that, or to make any particular diagnosis.  But based on your description and your doctor's opinion, ths for sure isn't molluscum contagiosum or any other STD.  Since the problem appears to be worsening (or at leat not improving) on the medications your doctor prescribed, I suggest you telephone or email his or her office -- which undoubtedly you can do while traveling -- for additional advice.  Or find a local doctor or clinic, ideally a dermatologist.  Perhaps you have a progressing superficial fungal infection, which certainly could happen as a result of oral antibiotic treatment.  But in the meantime, this doesn't sound at all dangerous and not a cause for serious worry.

Best wishes and safe travels--  HHH, MD

Also I think I overestimated the size of each dot--before being 'popped' the white circular central area of each of these is about the size of a period in a book...so not neccesarily 1-2mm in diameter.

And one further caveat--these are all in an area roughly 1.5 x 1 inches. There are approx 25 small white dots in this area, some of which are quite close together (1mm apart). Again, I can see various hairs/pores in the area, but these white dots do not have a visible hair exiting them...just the circle with the dot area in the center (again, hoping the dot could be a pore opening/hair follicle rather than molloscum.)

If you cannot judge on my own image, here is an image from a site about clogged pores in the area:

http://www.****************/articles/Pimple_like_Bumps_on_Penis_and_Testicles_a554.html

What I have going on looks a bit similar to that image, esp where it looks in that image like a small white circle with a central 'dot' area...only in my case the whole area around it is very red and inflamed...
