Possible Exposure

Hi there,

I am worried about an incident this past weekend.  On Saturday, I had protected oral and vaginal sex with an escort.  I performed unprotected oral sex to her for about 30 seconds, and then realized what I was doing, and stopped.  a day and a half later, I noticed swelling around my penis, but it did not hurt at all; peeing is fine (no pain), as well, I noticed some bruising right below my stomach (basically where the shaft of the penis meets the rest of my body).  I did remember that it felt a little rough, but is the swelling and bruising indicative of an STD?  What about the oral exposure?  Would that cause this?  I am very worried.

Thanks

Welcome to the STD forum.  I'll try to help.

No STD causes symptoms of penile swelling and bruising; and no STD can cause symptoms so soon after exposure.  2-3 days generally is the minimum.  That you used a condom also makes STDs unlikely.  If any STD could cause such symptoms, it would have to enter through the urethra -- but that's very unlikely if the condom was properly in place and remained intact.  On top of all this, most escorts (i.e. expensive commercial sex workers) are pretty safe and don't have particularly high STD rates, especially if they routinely use condoms for vaginal or anal sex, as most do.

As to whether the vigor of sex was traumatic enough to cause these symptoms, you're a better judge than I am.  You were there -- I wasn't!  But from your description, that's a far more likely explanation than any STD.

Performing cunnilingus (oral-vaginal sex) is very low risk for STD, and anything you caught would have to cause symptoms of your mouth or throat.  STDs don't travel through the body to cause problems at other places, genital or otherewise.

So my advice is to sit tight for a few days.  The swelling and bruising probably will fade.  If they do, I think you can safely move on without further worries.  If in doubt, though, see a health care provider for examination and possible STD testing.

the bruising and swelling was not rough, rather the sexual experience was.
