Pain in pubic area

Hello Doctor,

A friend visited me from 1/9 to 1/12 and we had sex numerous times, using a condom about half the time. Within 24 hours, I had some soreness in my pubic area which I attributed to the vigorousness of intercourse, but it still persists even today, and has localized to my right side, just above my penis. I also feel a bit of discomfort in my lower back on the same side. She told me that she had been tested a month prior, but we live in Canada and there is no herpes blood test. Are my symptoms indicative of a prodrome? Otherwise I have not seen any bumps, blisters, redness etc

I saw the on call doctor. She said it's definitely not an STI. I am sorry for harping on this. It's not like I enjoy the sensations or the anxiety, and I am sure you are fed up with these kinds of questions as well.

This is not an STI.  If you feel the need, see your own doctor to try to determine what this is but again, it is not an STI.  EWH

Today I noticed a red patch on the side of my penis about an inch up from the base. Last night the underside of my penis felt a bit irritated. It's a bit red but no bumps or anything like that.

No change in my assessment or advice.  it is time for this repetitive, anxiety driven thread to end.  EWH

Thank you. I am also on edge because I recall a past partner from Oct/November complaining of a UTI and I don't believe she took antibiotics to resolve it, though it seemed to clear up quickly. This had me concerned that I may have given her HSV via asymptomatic shedding, though she blamed me using the same finger in her anus and her vagina. I tend to get anxious about HSV frequently- The multitude of possible manifestations gives me endless possibilities to worry over it.

No need to worry about these sorts of marks appearing following masturbation.  I think you are worrying far more than you need to. EWH

Don't know how to edit posts, but this isn't the first time I've seen it (see prior posts). But it has occurred both in this spot before and on the opposite side on the head. I've gone to the doctor and they have variously swabbed the lesion (culture test, negative) or said it's not herpetic.Still the recurrence and timing have made me worry.

Should add they're mostly evident when the skin is stretched. How do you distinguish between the normal structures of the penis and HSV2 which seems to take on many forms?

Dr,

About 30 mins ago I masturbated (used Vaseline) and now there are several red spots on the right side of my penis shaft about 1-2mm long, not blisters but a bit irritated and flat. Also what looks like flaky dry skin. Is this just irritation from masturbating or should I get it checked?

Welcome to the Forum.  I will try to help. Apparently there are no lesions or visible abnormalities present making the soreness that  you are experiencing not at all suggestive of herpes.   I know from your prior posts that you are concerned about HSV but this is not likely.  Herpes would not cause symptoms within a day of exposure.  Further, not only is your partner unaware that she has HSV but when prodromal pain precedes or is part of a herpes outbreak, the discomfort of the prodrome preceded an outbreak by only a few hours, not days.

My suspicion is that this is muscular or soft tissue strain related to the multiple exposures that you describe, not HSV.  You might try a mild anti-inflammatory agent like ibuprofen or merely give this discomfort some time to resolve but I would not be worried about HSV and see no reason for concern.

I hope this comment is helpful. EWH
