Questions

Dear doctor,

This is my situation. i had unprotected oral sex (less than 5 mins) and protected oral sex (once and rather short one) about 4 weeks plus ago in by a CSW. This is my only and first exposure to such activities. i have no other sexual contact since then. Up till now i have no obvious symtoms like pus coming out form my penis or any growth of any sort in my private area. I do not feel any pain during urination. However, i do experience a general discomfort at my private area as well as a higher need for urination and slight discomfort after urination. I have some unexplained red spots on my left under arm as well as a very small "sore" ( i am not sure if its a ulcer or not) which has cause no pain, in my mouth.

I understand in your previous answers you have reassured numerous others about the low possiblity of them getting anything thorough such an engagement but i am still worried as there seems to be quite alot of contradictory information on the net. i.e like how many forms of STDs could be asymtomatic and could be transmitted through oral sex. Do you think i have reasons to be worried?

please advise

Welcome to the Forum.  the only exposure of consequence that you describe which carries any risk for STD is receipt of oral sex and that risk is low.  As I have said on this Forum many times before - "Oral sex is an inefficient way to transmit STDs.  Of the bacterial STDs only gonorrhea and nongonococcal urethritis (NGU) are transmitted through oral sex; chlamydia is not and without an obvious sore or lesion on your partner’s mouth, the chances of syphilis and herpes is likewise tiny.   Even if your partner had an STD (any STD and it is likely she did not), most exposures do not lead to infection. "

In your own case, the urinary symptoms you describe have a small possibility of being due to NGU and a test for white blood cells (WBCs) taken using a swab from the penis or in a urine collection taken just as you begin to urinate will be helpful in determining if NGU is present.  On the other han, urinary frequency is more often a sign of anxiety than anything else.

As for the red spots under your arm or the sore in your mouth, they do not suggest STD an may be things that you would not have noticed if you were not looking for them.  Sometimes after an exposure that, in retrospect, one wishes they had not had, persons tend to examine themselves and be far more attuned to genital sensations than in periods when they are not concerned.  This in turn leads to noticing what turn out to be normal sensations that might have been not noticed or ignored at other times.

Finally, the internet is both a blessing and a curse. There is much useful information available on the net but there is also much mis-information.  Please be careful. In situations like this, internet searches are all too often better a fueling anxieties than providing answers.  EWH

I am still waiting for my results. This wait is killing me and my anxiety level is at a all time high. I have no other obvious symptom except frequent urination. I check almost hourly for pus, since I go to the toilet that often but no pus is found. I really hope all is well and I really want to move on from this episode unscathed.

Your urologist won't find anything.  It's most likely because:

"Oral sex was linked to less common infectious causes of NGU in heterosexual men and men who have sex with men. The researchers include Catriona Bradshaw, MD, and colleagues."

That's from an austrailian study done by Catriona Bradshaw, MD

Therefore, if you have one of the less common infectious causes, it's won't be detected with the tests for more commom causes (i.e. Gono, and chlamydia).

Good luck to you both, there are many men out there battling persistent NGU with no relief.  Please, both of you keep me updated on how you progress.

Symptoms persist, but dipstick showed no signs of infection. They are re-testing for chlamydia, but if that result is negative, which it most likely will be, I will be referred to a urologist for further testing. It's frustrating.

So what happened?

Your symptoms are the very same ones I wrote in about last weekend (chlamydial reinfection?). Some discomfort, urge to pee, and dribbling following unprotected oral sex.
