Risk of HSV-1 and HSV-2

Doctor,

I have read many posts on this site and have a similar problem of anxiety like everyone else that post.
In my case 2 months ago I went to a massage parlor and received a hand job and kissed and sucked on her nipple
while she was performing the hand job.  Am I at a high risk of contracting HSV-1 or HSV-2?

Last month I donated blood and I know they test for HIV, Syphilis, and Hepatitis C... I didn't hear from them so I should be good.  Last month due to most likely dehydration and taking Alli, not eating properly and not hydrating I had discomfort urinating, for precaution and my own self assurance my Physician tested me for Ghonerria and Chlamydia, the tests were also negative.

With all these test going on I've been paying close attention to everything going on.  I did feel like an itching tingling sensation to my lip two weeks ago. I saw an type of ulcer sore near my gum... and I believe I hit that with the end of my toothbrush...and I also bit my lip eating an apple not too sure...but during this time I was taking antibiotics, alli ... I'm wondering since taking alli instructions say to take a multiple vitamin before you sleep and I have not and was thinking that could of caused the discomfort urinating. I was trying to put it all togethering thinking with a high stress deadline job, taking antibiotics, could have formed this ulcer non painful non itchy on my lower lip not visible... it is same color as the inside of my lip just slightly raised. The weather here is constantly changing cloudy and dry.

I'm wondering since that situation 2 months ago? Do you think I contracted HSV-1 or HSV-2... I've been trying to self diagnose online and seen many photos of HSV-1 and it doesn't come close to any of them...It really looks more l ike  an aphthous ulcer or a minor Mucocele. It's been about 2 weeks and it's still there... no openings or lesions that I can see, no itch, no crusting. What do you think?

Hello Doctor Thank you for  your patience....I went to my doctor and he took a look at it, it turned out to be Aphthous Stomatitis. I apologize for the inconvenience I may have caused you.

Dr. Hook,

So basically with the time period after that incident of the hand job and sucking on the nipple, the risk is low and it is unlikely what I described is not HSV.

Sorry, just too many possibilities to even warrant a guess.  Furthermore for me to make such a guess without the opportunity to examine you would be improper.  I suggest you work through this with your own health care provider.  EWH

Doctor what do you think it is? I was thinking about my doctor checking it out. one inside my lower lip and one inside my right side inside lower lip.  Feels like little lumps that I can play with, no pain, i could see the veins when i pull my gum down dark red, again no crusting.... is it because it's a warm moist area.  How about if the massage lady put saliva on her nipple not knowing her health status. Is that a high risk. I'm pretty concerned it's been 4 weeks and I feel these lumps/bumps in my lower lip. I'm sweating the load still.

Sorry, no change in my assessment.  What you describe is most unlikely to be HSV.  EWH

Hello doctor 4 weeks has passed and the lump shape on the inside of my lip is subsiding... They look like shallow aphthous ulcers. I felt them and feels like soft tissue is inside of them... I roll my tongue over them and it feels like soft tissue inside.  One mark looks like I bit into my lip and scar is still there.  I did find the area where I hit the end of  my toothbrush in my lower gum... Just remember I did have tingly sensation to my lower lip...and I think I bit into it that same week.  I looked at the photos and they look like shallow aphthous uclers... two weeks ago looks like i had some deterioration.  I hope I'm alright.. the texture of the lumps are like the lumps on each side of your cheek. Again they  never bursted, no puss and no crustation.  A little worried.

The risk for the expsoure you describe is so low there is no number to address your question.  The 60% of perole who have HSV-1 and mostly do not know it are peole who got it in childhood through childhood activities such as being hugged, kissed and playing with others.  EWH

In my situation I know you stated it's very very low.... Is that at least lower than 60%?
I've tested way back in college around 1999 for all of the STDs all negative... That is the most recent thing I've done 2 months ago. I'll take your comment of no worry, Just curious of the percentage of that situation.

Thanks Doctor.

The exposure you describe is very, very low risk for HSV acquisition of any type.  Sometimes after an exposure that, in retrospect, one wishes they had not had, persons tend to examine themselves and be far more attuned to skin changes and sensations than in periods when they are not concerned.  This in turns leads to noticing what turn out to be normal sensations that might have been not noticed or ignored at other times.  Perhaps this was a contributor to your situation.

Also, please remember that it you have not been tested for HSV before, your likelihood of having HSV-1 is about 60% and your risk of HSV-2 is over 20%.  Those are the figures for the general American population who do not think they have HSV.

Also, as you note, all of your other tests indicate that you do not have gonorrhea, chlamydia, HIV, hepatitis B or C, or HIV.  All of these would have been detected by the testing you've already had.

Bottom line.,  You need not worry.  I would not recommend further testing of any type, nor any concern.  Hope this will help.  EWH
