STD Question

Hello DR. And thanks for your time.  In May I was in Germany on business and on the 7th visited the redlight district in Nuremborg and regretably did some "window shopping."  Both prostitutes gave protected oral and vaginal with condoms that they provided and properly put on.  Each lasted around 15 minutes and I didn't ejaculate if that matters.  Well, I sobered up, got home, and extremr paranoia followed.  I've been stressing out really bad on account of ithis happened on my kindof bachelor party.  I was thoroughly checking my private area for the next month 15-20 times a day.  I never had any major symptoms of an STD but itching of the scrotum but I had that b4.  I also had fever one night 1 week after the encounter and a side and stomach rash 2 weeks after which I thought was heat rash.  I thought I was ok, but around 2 month after the encounter,  I started getttin low abdom
inal pain.  Maybe once an hour lasting one second.  3 days later it turned to all the time, accompanied with diarrhea and loss of appetite.  Also a minor irritation at tip of penis that occurs when not urinating.  This has lasted about a week but now seems slightly better.  Today I got a negative HIV test at planned parenthood and am awaiting gonhorrea and clamydia results but to my disapointment they don't check anything else.  What could this b?  What other tests should I have done?  Thank u for ur time.

The location of your pain does not change that condom protected sex is safe sex and that your test results will support this statement.  It may be due to something else.

As far as your wife is concerned, indeed she may have have a UTI.  I still see no reason for concern relaed to the exposure you described above.  EWH

Thannks again.  Quick update.  On further reflection my pain is in the pelvis does this change anything.  Also, the wife has been feeling discomfort when urinating lately similar to a possible UTI she had 1 year ago.  Does this change anything? Thanks again

Welcome to our Forum.  I am confident that the gonorrhea and chlamydia tests that you had done will be negative as your exposure was virtually no risk.  In Germany licensed commercial sex workers are regularly checked for STDS (including HIV) so the odds are that your partners did not have STDs.  Still more importantly, your exposures were condom protected and condom protected sex is safe sex.  Thus, there was really no risk to your exposure.  I won't argue your having gotten tested (although I wonder why you didn't do it sooner) and a sI said above, I predict the results will show that you do not have an infection.

As for your symptoms, they are non-specific and do not suggest STD.  Sometimes after an exposure that, in retrospect, one wishes they had not had, persons tend to examine themselves and be far more attuned to genital sensations than in periods when they are not concerned.  This in turn leads to noticing what turn out to be normal sensations that might have been not noticed or ignored at other times.  Perhaps this is a contributor to some of your symptoms.

If the abdominal pain continues you may wish to discuss this with your doctor but concerns about STDs need not be part of the conversation except in relationship to the anxiety you have acknowledged.  EWH
